Get online
You've purchased a PlayStation 4 and are looking forward to the greatest possible gaming experience? Then you should connect the console to the online world, because only then can you start using it to its full potential. With the PS4 you can play games online, interact with other users or watch your favorite series on a range of apps. There are two ways to connect the console to the network: with a classic cable connection or wirelessly. You can find out which option is best for you in a separate Guide article.
Option A: connect via cable
Take a LAN cable and insert it into the appropriate port on the back of the console. Depending on the design (PS4/PS4 Pro/PS4 Slim), the LAN port is located in a different position. Look out for the port that's labeled "LAN". Connect the other end of the cable with the network port on your FRITZ!Box – and you're done! The connection will be established automatically upon starting.
Option B: connect via WiFi
Alternatively, you can use a wireless connection to transmit data between the FRITZ!Box and the console. The prerequisite for this is that wireless LAN has been enabled on your FRITZ!Box and that the console is within the reception range. The first time you switch your console on, it will scan your location for wireless networks. Here you already have the option of establishing a wireless LAN connection to your home network. Simply follow the instructions on the screen and enter the network key when prompted to do so.
It's much easier to configure the wireless connection by pressing the WPS button on the FRITZ!Box. Click here for more info, as well as other useful tips for setting up the PlayStation 4 on your home network.
