Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with a fiber optic connection from Vodafone

The FRITZ!Box is optimally prepared for use with Vodafone. Have Vodafone activate the FRITZ!Box, connect the FRITZ!Box to the fiber optic connection, and enter your personal modem installation code in the FRITZ!Box user interface.

The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and television (Vodafone TV) is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • Deutsche Telekom must make the fiber optic connection available. Currently the FRITZ!Box cannot be used directly with lines from other cooperating partners.

    Note:Who provides the connection is stated in the confirmation of your order. With lines from other cooperating partners, you can configure the FRITZ!Box for the internet connection via "WAN" and use it behind the fiber optic modem from Vodafone.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Having your account information ready

  1. Have your "Modem-Installations-Code" (MIC) or your personal account information for internet access and the login information for telephony that you received from Vodafone ready.

    Note:You will find the "Modem-Installations-Code" or your account information in the welcome letter that Vodafone sent you before activating your connection. If you did not receive your account information, contact Vodafone.

2 Unlocking your FRITZ!Box

Wait to unlock the FRITZ!Box until you receive an email or SMS message with the reference "Einrichtung Ihres Glasfaseranschlusses" from Deutsche Telekom:

  1. In the email or SMS with the reference "Einrichtung Ihres Glasfaseranschlusses", click or tap the link or button "Jetzt einrichten". You will be redirected to the Deutsche Telekom website.

  2. On the Telekom website, tap the button "Jetzt einrichten" and follow the wizard's instructions. When asked, give them the ID of the fiber optic socket ("Glasfaser-ID") and the "modem ID" given on the type label of the FRITZ!Box.
  3. Once the wizard is complete, it may take up to 45 minutes until your connection is completely configured. You will receive an email or SMS when your connection has been completely configured.

3 Inserting the SFP module into the FRITZ!Box

  1. Insert the SFP module "FRITZ!SFP GPON" into the fiber slot of the FRITZ!Box.

4 Connecting the FRITZ!Box to your fiber optic connection

  1. Remove the dust protection caps from the fiber optic cable, the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box, and from the fiber optic socket.
  2. Connect the fiber optic cable to the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box and to the fiber optic socket. Do not bend the fiber optic cable and do not hold the ends of the cable in front of your eyes.

5 Plugging the FRITZ!Box in

  1. Plug the power adapter into the FRITZ!Box's power socket and plug it into a power outlet.

6 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password given on the type label of the FRITZ!Box and click "Log In".
  3. If the wizard for internet access does not start automatically, click "Wizards" and then "Configure the Internet Connection".

  4. Select "Vodafone" from the drop-down list.
  5. Enable the option "Einrichtung mit Modem-Installations-Code (Empfohlen)", click "Next", and enter your modem installation code. If you did not receive a "Modem-Installations-Code":
    1. Enable the option "Einrichtung mit Eingabe der Zugangsdaten" and click "Next".
    2. Enter the account information contained in the welcome letter from Vodafone in the fields in the section "Ihr Internetzugang (nur für Expertenmodus bei manueller Konfiguration)".
  6. Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.
  7. Now the FRITZ!Box checks whether the internet connection can be established. Configuration is complete as soon as the message "The internet connection check was successful" is displayed.

    Important:If the internet connection check fails, your internet access may not have been activated yet. In this case, contact Vodafone.

7 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Configuring telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the "New Telephone Number" button.
  4. Select "Vodafone DSL" from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter the login information supplied by Vodafone in the corresponding fields.
  6. Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.

Assigning telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making calls.
  5. Select the telephone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
