Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with a fiber optic connection from E.ON

The FRITZ!Box is optimally prepared for use with E.ON Glasfaser. Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the fiber optic connection and enter your personal account information in the FRITZ!Box user interface.

The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and multimedia is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • FRITZ!Box Fiber with SFP module "FRITZ!SFP AON"

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Inserting the SFP module into the FRITZ!Box

  1. Insert the SFP module "FRITZ!SFP AON" into the fiber slot of the FRITZ!Box.

2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box to your fiber optic connection

  1. Remove the dust protection caps from the fiber optic cable, the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box, and from the fiber optic socket.
  2. Connect the fiber optic cable to the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box and to the fiber optic socket. Do not bend the fiber optic cable and do not hold the ends of the cable in front of your eyes.

3 Plugging the FRITZ!Box in

  1. Plug the power adapter into the FRITZ!Box's power socket and plug it into a power outlet.

4 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password on the bottom of the device and click "Log In".
  3. If the menu "Account Information" is not displayed automatically, click "Account Information" in the "Internet" menu.
  4. Select "other internet service provider" from the drop-down list "Internet service provider".
  5. Enable the option "Fiber optic".
  6. Enable the option "No" in the section "Account Information".
  7. Click "Change connection settings".
  8. Enable the option "Use VLAN for internet access".
  9. Enter 132 in the field "VLAN ID".
  10. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  11. Now the FRITZ!Box checks whether the internet connection can be established. Configuration is completed as soon as the message "The internet connection check was successful" is displayed.

    Important:If the internet connection check fails, your internet access may not have been activated yet. In this case, contact E.ON.

5 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Having your login information ready

  1. Have the login information for telephony that you received from E.ON ready.

    Note:E.ON sent you the login information in their letter with your telephone number after you concluded the contract with them. If you did not receive your login information, contact E.ON.

Setting up the telephony connection

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click on the "Line Settings" tab.
  4. Click "Changing the Settings" in the "Telephony connection" section.
  5. Click "Connection Settings for DSL/WAN".
  6. Enable the option "VLAN required for internet telephony".
  7. Enter 232 in the field "VLAN ID".
  8. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Configuring telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the "New Telephone Number" button.
  4. Select "Other provider" from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter your telephone number including the area code (for example 030123456) by "Telephone Number for Registration".
  6. Enter your telephone number (for example 123456) by "Internal telephone number in the FRITZ!Box".
  7. Enter the login information you received from E.ON Highspeed by "Username" and "Password".
  8. Enter the registrar given to you by E.ON Highspeed in the field "Registrar" (for example sip.eontel.com).
  9. In the "Proxy server" field, enter the proxy server that EON Highspeed gave you (for example 10.199.27.27).
  10. Click "Additional Settings" to display all of the settings.
  11. Select "In-band" for "DTMF transmission".
  12. Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.

Assigning telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making calls.
  5. Select the telephone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
