Configuring a network device to automatically obtain IP settings (DHCP)
All of the computers, smartphones, and other network devices connected to the repeater need special IP settings automatically assigned by the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server of the router to communicate with the FRITZ!Repeater and wireless router (for example a FRITZ!Box). For this, the device's IP settings must be configured to automatically obtain IP settings (DHCP client).
Windows 11
- Click (Start) and then (Settings) in the Windows task bar.
- Click "Network & Internet" in the "Settings" menu.
- Click "Properties" next to the entry for the network connection of the computer.
- Click "Edit" in the "IP assignment" section.
- In the window "Edit IP settings", enable the option "Automatic (DHCP)" and click "Save".
Windows 10
- Click (Start) and then (Settings) in the Windows task bar.
- Click "Network & Internet" in the "Settings" menu.
- Click "Change adapter options" in the section "Advanced network settings".
- Click the arrow next to the (Change view) button in the menu bar and select "Details".
- Right-click the Wi-Fi connection that lists the network adapter that connects the computer to the FRITZ!Repeater under "Device Name".
- Click "Properties".
- Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)".
- Click "Properties".
- Enable the options "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
macOS
- Open the "System Preferences" in the Apple menu.
- Click on "Network" in the "System Preferences" menu.
- Select the option "Wi-Fi" in the left-hand window.
- Click "Advanced".
- Select the option "Using DHCP:" from the "Configure IPv4" drop-down list on the the TCP/IP settings page.
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
Android (for example Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy)
- Open the "Settings" on the Android device.
- Tap "Network & Internet" in the "Settings".
- Tap "Wi-Fi".
- If Wi-Fi is switched off, tap the "On / Off" symbol.
- Tap the entry with the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) of the FRITZ!Box.
- Tap the "Edit" symbol and then "Advanced options".
- Select "DHCP" from the drop-down list "IP settings" and then tap "Save".
Apple iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod touch)
- Tap the "Settings" symbol on the home screen.
- Tap "Wi-Fi" in the "Settings" menu.
- If Wi-Fi is switched off, tap the "On / Off" symbol.
- Tap the exclamation mark next to the entry with the name of your Wi-Fi network.
- Select "Automatic" under "Configure IP".
Linux (using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS as an example)
- Open the system preferences, for example in the Terminal with the "gnome-control-center".
- Click "Wi-Fi" in the settings.
- Click the gear symbol by the connection that connects the computer to the FRITZ!Repeater.
- Click on the "IPv4" tab.
- Enable the option "Automatic (DHCP)" and click "Apply".
Other devices (for example NAS systems, network printers)
- Configure the device according to the manufacturer's instructions so that it automatically obtains an IP address (DHCP). Refer to the manufacturer for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.
