Zigbee – now also in the FRITZ! Smart Home

What is Zigbee?

Zigbee is a manufacturer-independent wireless standard that is used in many Smart Home devices. Zigbee devices network with each other and form their own Mesh network, so the range of the individual devices is not decisive. It's important for each device to be in contact with at least one other Zigbee device. A gateway is needed to control Zigbee devices, for example the FRITZ!Smart Gateway. Zigbee uses the 2.4 GHz frequency band (as do Wi-Fi and Bluetooth) and the license-free ISM radio band around 868 MHz and has a theoretical range of up to 100 meters indoors. The range is higher than 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi devices.

Zigbee in the FRITZ! Smart home – how it works

Adding Zigbee to the FRITZ! Smart Home is easy: Connect the FRITZ!Smart Gateway to your FRITZ!Box (with FRITZ!OS 7.50 or later) via LAN or Wi-Fi. You can connect supported Zigbee devices to your FRITZ Smart Home via the FRITZ!Smart Gateway user interface.

The Zigbee devices are then available to you with the familiar Smart Home features: direct control via the user interface, FRITZ!App Smart Home, FRITZ!Fon or the FRITZ!DECT 440 and 400 smart switches. as well integrating the Zigbee devices into templates, scenes and routines. You can switch Zigbee devices together with FRITZ Smart Home devices.

Which Zigbee devices are compatible?

When it comes to controllable lights in particular, there is a large variety of devices that you can control with the FRITZ!Smart Gateway. This means you benefit from a wide range of third-party manufacturers lights. For details on compatible devices, check out the compatibility list.
