Connecting FRITZ!Powerline with a powerline network
Set up a powerline network with your FRITZ!Powerline devices to give your network devices easy access to the internet and home network over your home's electrical wiring.
FRITZ!Powerline devices are already protected by a unique network password in the factory settings. To form a powerline network, the powerline devices must use the same password.
1 Connecting a FRITZ!Powerline set with the FRITZ! home network
If you are using two FRITZ!Powerline devices from a set, you can immediately connect them with the FRITZ! home network as a small powerline network since both FRITZ!Powerline device already use the same password upon delivery:
- Insert the first FRITZ!Powerline device in an outlet near the FRITZ!Box. If you are using a FRITZ!Powerline WLAN Set, we recommend using the FRITZ!Powerline device without Wi-Fi support near the FRITZ!Box and using the FRITZ!Powerline device with Wi-Fi support outside the Wi-Fi range of the FRITZ!Box.
- Use a network cable to connect the first FRITZ!Powerline device to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Box.
- Plug the second FRITZ!Powerline device into an outlet at the desired location.
- The powerline network is established as soon as the Powerline LED remains lit. The powerline network is automatically encrypted and can be used immediately.
2 Expanding the FRITZ!Powerline network with a FRITZ!Powerline device
If you want to connect individual FRITZ!Powerline devices with each other or add them to an already existing powerline network, set up the connection quickly and securely at the push of a button or using the user interface. Using the user interface for setup is especially useful if your FRITZ!Powerline devices are used in places that are difficult to access:
Note:Make sure that at least two FRITZ!Powerline devices in the existing network are active. FRITZ!Powerline devices without Wi-Fi support switch to standby mode if no device is connected to the LAN port via network cable or no data is transmitted for about 5 minutes.
Expanding the powerline network at the touch of a button
- Plug the FRITZ!Powerline device that you want to add to the powerline network into an outlet near a FRITZ!Powerline device that is already in the powerline network.
- Wait until the FRITZ!Powerline device is ready for operation and the Connect LED flashes slowly or the Power LED or WLAN LED remains lit.
- Briefly push the Connect button (see table) on both of the FRITZ!Powerline devices. You can push the button on whichever FRITZ!Powerline device you want first. After you release the button, either the Powerline or the Connect LED flashes. Depending on the FRITZ!Powerline model, several other LEDs flash at the same time.
