Can the FRITZ!Box be used as a wireless repeater?
It is possible to use the FRITZ!Box as a wireless repeater with an existing FRITZ!Box. If both of the FRITZ!Box models support FRITZ!Mesh, you can configure the FRITZ!Box as a Mesh Repeater. However, it cannot be used as a wireless repeater with a router from another manufacturer because there is no manufacturer-independent Mesh standard yet, and the manufacturer-independent WDS (Wireless Distribution System) method is obsolete and not supported by the FRITZ!Box.
You can therefore only configure the operating mode "existing connection over Wi-Fi" in the FRITZ!Box on a router from another manufacturer. In this case, the FRITZ!Box still functions as a router and and provides its own network with its own network address range. If a wireless repeater is required, for example because the devices connected to the repeater should also access devices connected to the router, a FRITZ!Repeater can be used. FRITZ!Repeaters behave towards routers like conventional wireless devices and can therefore be used with all commercially available routers.
