Determining the FRITZ!Box's MAC address
A MAC address (Media Access Control address) is the hardware address of a network interface (for example Wi-Fi) and serves as a unique identifier of a device in a network.
The MAC address at which computers or other devices can access the FRITZ!Box depends on whether the device is connected to the FRITZ!Box via a network cable or Wi-Fi.
1 Determining the Wi-Fi MAC address
- Click "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Wi-Fi Network" ("Radio Network") in the "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") menu.
- Click "More Information on the Wi-Fi Network" and take note of the respective MAC address.
2 Determining the LAN MAC address
You can use a computer connected to a LAN port on the FRITZ!Box to determine the FRITZ!Box's LAN MAC address. The procedure depends on the operating system of the computer:
Windows
- Press the keyboard shortcut Windows key + R.
- Enter cmd in the "Open" field and click "OK".
- Enter nslookup fritz.box in the command prompt window and press Enter.
- Make note of the IP address of the FRITZ!Box displayed next to the entry "Address:".
- Enter arp -a [IP address of the FRITZ!Box] and press Enter.
Example:

- The MAC address of the FRITZ!Box is displayed under the entry "Physical Address".
macOS
- Open the Finder.
- Click "Applications" and then "Utilities".
- Open Terminal.
- Enter nslookup fritz.box in the Terminal and press Enter.
- Make note of the IP address of the FRITZ!Box displayed next to the entry "Address:".
- Enter arp [IP address of the FRITZ!Box] and press Enter.
Example:
arp 192.168.178.1 - The MAC address of the FRITZ!Box is displayed.
Linux
- Open Terminal. If you are using Ubuntu, you can open Terminal by pressing the keyboard shortcut CTRL + ALT + T.
- Enter nslookup fritz.box in the Terminal and press Enter.
- Make note of the IP address of the FRITZ!Box displayed next to the entry "Address:".
- Enter arp [IP address of the FRITZ!Box] and press Enter.
Example:
arp 192.168.178.1 - The MAC address of the FRITZ!Box is displayed.
