Setting up live images from an IP camera for FRITZ!Fon
The live image function enables you to follow what is happening in front of your IP camera (network camera, webcam) on your FRITZ!Fon. To use it, you must enter the web address (URL) of the IP camera with the keys on your FRITZ!Fon and start the live image function on your FRITZ!Fon. The camera image is then shown on the telephone's display as a sequence of images without audio.
Requirements / Restrictions
- A FRITZ!Fon with a color display is being used.
- The IP camera records images in MJPG/MJPEG, JPG/JPEG, PNG or GIF file format.
- The IP camera makes the images available via HTTPS, HTTP, or FTP.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Configuring the IP camera
- Configure the IP camera so that it makes its images available on a website via HTTPS or HTTP.
Note:For the optimal display of the live image, set the resolution of the IP camera to at least 240 x 320 to about 480 x 640 pixels.
2 Configuring the FRITZ!Box

- Click "DECT" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Enable the option "Permit only secure DECT connections (recommended)" in the section "Security".

- Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click on the "Live Image" tab.
- Click the "Add New Live Image" button.
- Enter a name of your choice for the camera in the "Name" field.
- If you want to stream images from a camera in the home network, enter the complete local address (URL) where the image files can be accessed in the "Live Image URL" field. Refer to the manufacturer of the IP camera for information on the URL.
Example:
http://192.168.178.25/image_directory/image.mjpeg- If you want to stream images from a camera in the internet, enter the complete web address (URL) where the image files can be accessed in the "Live Image URL" field.
Example for the rbb radio station's weather webcam at the Red City Hall in Berlin:
http://www.berlin.de/webcams/rathaus/webcam.jpg
Important:If entering a username and password is required to access the images, make sure that they do not contain symbols reserved for URL encoding, and extend the URL accordingly, for example
http://user:password%40ipcamera.my-domain.com/image_directory/image.jpg
http://my-domain.com/snapshot.cgi?user=user&pwd=top%23secret - If you want to stream images from a camera in the internet, enter the complete web address (URL) where the image files can be accessed in the "Live Image URL" field.
