Adding background images and contact pictures using FRITZ!Fon
The FRITZ!Box allows you to add your own images to telephone book entries that you use often. When those parties call, the corresponding pictures are then shown on the display of your FRITZ!Fon. You can also configure your own background image for each telephone that is then displayed in standby mode. You simply use the FRITZ!Box user interface to upload the images and transmit them to your telephones.
Requirements / Restrictions
- Only FRITZ!Fons with color displays support the use of background images and contact pictures.
- You can only add contact pictures to telephone books saved directly in the FRITZ!Box. With online telephone books, the pictures you assigned to your contacts in your online telephone book are displayed.
- No DECT repeaters from other manufacturers are registered with the FRITZ!Box.
- The images you would like to use are in JPEG format.
Note:We recommend a resolution of at least 240x320 pixels for the images, with an ideal aspect ratio of 1:1. When you save an image as JPEG in image editing software, we recommend using "baseline" encoding (usually the default).
- You can add up to 256 contact pictures.
Note:This guide is valid for FRITZ!OS 7.50 or later. If you are using an older FRITZ!OS version, the configuration may differ or functions may not be available. You can find the FRITZ!OS version on the "Overview" page of the FRITZ!Box user interface.
1 Enabling encryption
DECT encryption must be enabled to use convenience functions with your FRITZ!Fon:
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "DECT" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Enable the option "Permit only secure DECT connections (recommended)" in the section "Security".
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
- If the option was disabled, you must then restart the FRITZ!Box once using the user interface ("System > Backup > Restart").
2 Adding contact pictures
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Telephone Book" in the "Telephony" menu.
- If you saved more than one telephone book in the FRITZ!Box, switch to the telephone book you use with the telephone.
- Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephone book entry.
- Click on the "Add Photo" tab and then click the "Add Photo" button. If the tab is not displayed, the FRITZ!Box is configured as a Mesh Repeater. Contact pictures can only be configured in the Mesh Master and are not displayed in the telephone book of the Mesh Repeater.
- Click the "Browse..." or "Choose File" button and select the desired image.
- Click "Apply" and "OK" to save the settings.
3 Adding a background image
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephone.
- Click on the "Telephony Device Features" tab.
- Click the "Assign background image" button.
- Click the "Browse..." or "Choose File" button and select the desired image.
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
- Press the "Menu" button on the telephone.
- Scroll to "Settings" and press "OK".
- "Menu" > "Start Screens" > "Classical"
- Enable the option "Background image" and press "OK".
The images are now shown on the display of your telephone. The bottom part of the images is displayed lighter than the upper part. This way you can always read the text displayed there, regardless of the image being displayed.
