Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with a fiber optic connection from Init7

The FRITZ!Box is optimally prepared for use with Init7. Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the fiber optic connection and configure the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box. If Init7 provided you with the FRITZ!Box for an Easy7 line, it will be configured automatically.

The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and television (TV7) is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • A FRITZ!Box Fiber with the SFP module "FRITZ!SFP AON" is required for active fiber optic connections (AON) from Init7.
  • A FRITZ!Box Fiber with the SFP module "FRITZ!SFP XGS-PON" is required for passive fiber optic connections (XGS-PON) from Init7.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Inserting the SFP module into the FRITZ!Box

The FRITZ!Box is available in several different product variants, each of which is delivered with different components. If there was no SFP module inserted in your FRITZ!Box, perform the following steps:

  1. Insert the SFP module that is suitable for your fiber optic connection into the fiber slot of the FRITZ!Box:
    1. If you have an active fiber optic connection (AON), insert the SFP module "FRITZ!SFP AON" into the fiber slot of the FRITZ!Box.
    2. If you have a passive fiber optic connection (XGS-PON), insert the SFP module "FRITZ!SFP XGS-PON" into the fiber slot of the FRITZ!Box.

Important:If you do not know what kind of fiber optic connection you have, test both of the SFP modules supplied with the FRITZ!Box. The Power/Fiber LED on the FRITZ!Box remains lit as soon as the FRITZ!Box is connected to the fiber optic connection using the correct SFP module.

2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box to your fiber optic connection

  1. Remove the dust protection caps from the fiber optic cable, the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box, and from the fiber optic socket (OTO).
  2. Connect the fiber optic cable to the SFP module in the FRITZ!Box and to the fiber optic socket. Do not bend the fiber optic cable and do not hold the ends of the cable in front of your eyes.

Note:You can find information on selecting a suitable fiber optic cable in our guide Which fiber optic cable do I need?

  1. Plug the power adapter into the FRITZ!Box's power socket and plug it into a power outlet.

4 Enabling the fiber optic connection with Swisscom

If you are using the FRITZ!Box on a Hybrid7 connection with XGS-PON, you must first enable the connection with Swisscom:

  1. Call up https://swisscom.ch/start in your web browser. It may take a few minutes for the page to be shown.
  2. Enter the OTO ID of your fiber optic cable socket (for example B.777.777.777.X).
  3. Enter the plug number (slot number).
  4. Enter the activation code you received from Init7.
  5. Click "Aktivieren" to start activating your fiber optic connection. If may take up to 30 minutes for the activation to be completed and before the internet connection can be used.

5 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

If Init7 provided you with the FRITZ!Box for an Easy7 line, it will now be configured automatically. Configuration may take up to 15 minutes and is completed as soon as the Power LED remains lit.

If you did not receive the FRITZ!Box from Init7 for an Easy7 line, configure the internet connection manually:

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password on the bottom of the device and click "Log In".
  3. If the menu "Account Information" is not displayed automatically, click "Account Information" in the "Internet" menu.
  4. Select "other internet service provider" from the drop-down list "Internet service provider".
  5. Enable the option "Fiber optic".
  6. If you are using the FRITZ!Box on a Fiber7 or Crossover7 line:
    1. Enable the option "No" in the section "Account Information".
  7. If you are using the FRITZ!Box on a hybrid7 line:
    1. Enable the option "Yes" in the section "Account Information".
    2. Enter the account information you received from Init7 in the relevant fields.
    3. If you are using the FRITZ!Box on a Hybrid7 line with XGS-PON" line, click "Change Connection Settings", enable the option "Use VLAN for internet access", and enter 11 in the field "VLAN ID".
  8. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  9. Now the FRITZ!Box checks whether the internet connection can be established. Configuration is completed as soon as the message "The internet connection check was successful" is displayed.

Important:If the internet connection check fails, your internet access may not have been activated yet. In this case, contact Init7.

6 Establishing a Wi-Fi connection to the FRITZ!Box

If Init7 provided you with the FRITZ!Box for an Easy7 line, you cannot use the QR code for Wi-Fi access on the FRITZ!Box's type label. Instead, set up Wi-Fi connections to the FRITZ!Box manually:

  1. Select the Wi-Fi network named Init7 followed by 4 numerals (Init7_XXXX).
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box's network key. You can find the network key on the type label on the bottom of the FRITZ!Box.
