Media files are not displayed
When accessing the FRITZ!Box media server, playback devices or software do not display media files although they are available on the FRITZ!Box's storage (NAS).
Cause
- The FRITZ!Box did not index the files or the FRITZ!Box does not support the file format (for example audio, video, and container format).
Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Enabling automatic file index refresh
Enable the FRITZ!Box's automatic file index refresh option so that the FRITZ!Box can automatically index new files when they are copied to a storage device connected to the FRITZ!Box:
- Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "USB / Storage" in the "Home Network" menu.
- Enable the option "Refresh index automatically".
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
2 Selecting storage for media server
Make sure that the storage with the media files is released for sharing with the media server or release all of the storage for the media server:
- Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Media Server" in the "Home Network" menu.
- If the media server should be allowed to access all storage available on the FRITZ!Box, enable the option "No restriction" in the section "Media Sources".
- If the media server should only be allowed to access specific storage, select it as a media source in the home network.
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
3 Creating a new file index
- Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "USB / Storage" in the "Home Network" menu.
- Click the "Refresh index" button.
- Now the FRITZ!Box creates the file index for the connected storage devices again. This process may take several minutes, depending on the memory size.
4 Folder "FRITZ" is not indexed
The FRITZ!Box does not index files in the folder "FRITZ" because it uses the directory "FRITZ" as a cache and for its database files, for example for the media server. Here the FRITZ!Box only shows received faxes and voice messages recorded by the answering machine (faxbox, voicebox), but not the folder "mediabox" or other files and directories.
If you saved files in the folder "FRITZ" or a subfolder of "FRITZ", set up the storage as a network drive and move the files to another directory.
5 File format is not supported
Media files use many different file formats, not all of which are supported by the FRITZ!Box media server. You can find an overview of the file formats supported by the media server in the guide File formats supported by the media server.
Playback devices or software display media files whose file formats are supported by the FRITZ!Box media server. However, media files whose TAG information the FRITZ!Box cannot interpret will only be displayed in the view "Folder" and "All tracks", "All videos" or "All images" (depending on the file type).
Playback devices or software do not display media files whose file format is not supported by the FRITZ!Box media server.
