Manually updating FRITZ!OS

FRITZ! products can also be updated when they are not connected with the internet. To do so you can download the FRITZ!OS file using a different internet connection and then install the FRITZ!OS update manually.

1 Downloading the FRITZ!OS file

  1. Call up download.avm.de/ in your web browser.
  2. Switch to the folder for your FRITZ! product and then to the folder for the corresponding model. From there, switch to the subfolder "deutschland" or "other" and then to the folder "fritz.os".

    Note:The complete model name of your FRITZ! product is shown in the user interface on the "Overview" page and on the underside of the device.

  3. Download the file with the extension ".image" to the computer.

Deactivating the mobile network connection in Android

The following step is only necessary if you want to use an Android smartphone or tablet to perform the update. In Android, you can only access the user interface of a FRITZ! product without internet access if the mobile network connection is not active:

  1. Enable airplane mode on the Android device to clear all connections.
  2. Only enable Wi-Fi on the Android device to establish the connection to the FRITZ! product.

Installing the latest FRITZ!OS

  1. Click "System" in the user interface of the FRITZ! product.
  2. Click "Update" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "FRITZ!OS file" tab.
  4. Only with a FRITZ!Box: Click "Save Settings" and on the FRITZ!Box, confirm that the procedure may be executed, if you are asked to do so.

    Note:Save your FRITZ!Box settings again under "System > Backup" right after successfully completing the installation. Then you can always restore a working configuration.

  5. Click the "Browse..." or "Choose File" button.
  6. Select the FRITZ!OS file you downloaded (image file).
  7. Click the "Start Update" button.

If you used an Android device to perform the update, you can deactivate airplane mode on the Android device again as soon as the FRITZ!OS update is complete.
