FRITZ!Repeater only connects to FRITZ!Box over 2.4 GHz

The FRITZ!Repeater only uses the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network to establish the Wi-Fi connection to the FRITZ!Box although the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network is enabled in the FRITZ!Box.

Work through the following steps to resolve the problem.

1 Disabling the FRITZ!Box's MAC address filter

Disable the FRITZ!Box's MAC address filter for the duration of the setup because otherwise the FRITZ!Repeater cannot connect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network using WPS during setup:

  1. Click "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Security" or "Radio Network" in the "Wi-Fi" menu.
  3. If available, click "Restrict Access to Wi-Fi".
  4. Enable the option "Allow all new wireless devices". If the option is not displayed, enable the Advanced View first.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

2 Checking whether radar detection is enabled

The FRITZ!Box must locate radar systems and, in certain situations, comply with the DFS wait time required by law. During this wait time, wireless devices cannot connect to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. Therefore, check whether radar detection is active before reconnecting the FRITZ!Repeater with the FRITZ!Box:

  1. Click "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Wi-Fi Channel" ("Radio Channel") in the "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") menu.
  3. Click on the "5-GHz Band" tab in the section "Wi-Fi Environment".
  4. Check whether the message "Radar detection enabled. At the moment no Wi-Fi connection (5 GHz) is possible; please wait" is displayed in the diagrams in the section "Wi-Fi Environment".
  5. If the message is not displayed, continue with the next section.
    • If the message is displayed, wait until radar detection is complete before proceeding with the following section.

3 Reconnecting FRITZ!Repeater with the FRITZ!Box

  1. Push and hold down the Connect button on the FRITZ!Repeater for about 6 seconds until the status LED flashes.
  2. Within 2 minutes: Push and hold down the Connect button on the FRITZ!Box until the Connect LED (see table) lights up. Other LEDs may also light up:
