FRITZ!Box is displayed several times in the Windows network environment

The FRITZ!Box is displayed multiple times in the Windows network environment because Windows detects the FRITZ!Box through various technologies (for example NetBIOS, WSD, SSDP / UPnP) and displays the FRITZ!Box in its functions as router, media server, and network storage in different categories. This is not an error.

  • In the "Other devices" section, the FRITZ!Box is displayed several times with its host name (factory setting: fritz.box) and possibly also as "InternetGatewayDeviceV2". Normally the entries can be used to open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  • In the "Computer" section, the FRITZ!Box is displayed up to two times depending on the system environment: Once with its host name (factory setting: fritz.box) and once with its IP address separated by hyphens (factory setting: 192-168-178-1). The entries can be used to access the NAS contents of the FRITZ!Box.

Note:Displaying the IP address as the name makes it easier to identify a FRITZ!Box in certain constellations. You can also assign the FRITZ!Box a unique name under "Home Network > FRITZ!Box Name" to make sure you can identify a FRITZ!Box.

  • In the section "Multimedia Device", the FRITZ!Box is displayed once as "AVM FRITZ!Mediaserver". This is an entry for the FRITZ!Box's UPnP media server.
  • In the section "Network Infrastructure", the FRITZ!Box is displayed once in its function as a router (Internet Gateway). The entry can be used to open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
