Enabling energy-saving mode for USB storage devices

The FRITZ!Box can switch USB storage devices that are connected to it to energy-saving mode (standby) when they are idle. This way you can reduce the power consumption of the USB storage device.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • The USB storage device must support energy-saving mode.
  • The USB remote connection function is not enabled for USB storage devices (under "Home Network > USB / Storage > USB Settings" in the user interface).

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

Enabling the energy-saving mode in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "USB / Storage" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "USB Settings" tab.
  4. From the drop-down list "Energy-saving mode for USB storage media", select after how many minutes of inactivity the USB device should be switched to energy-saving mode (for example 10 minutes).
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Now the USB storage device will be switched to energy-saving mode when it has been idle for the amount of time specified.
