Using an Android smartphone or tablet in the FRITZ! home network
You can easily connect an Android smartphone or tablet to the Wi-Fi network of the FRITZ!Box. Then the device can access the internet connection, FRITZ!NAS, and the FRITZ!Box media server, and use numerous other functions of the FRITZ!Box with our FRITZ!Apps.
1 Connecting the smartphone or tablet with the home network
Note:You can also use FRITZ!App Wi-Fi to establish the Wi-Fi connection by pointing the camera on the device at the QR code found under "Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Channel" ("Wireless > Radio Network") in the user interface.
- Open the "Settings" on your smartphone or tablet.
- Tap "Network & Internet" in the "Settings".
- Tap "Internet".
- If Wi-Fi is switched off, tap the "On / Off" symbol.
- Tap the connection that displays the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) of the FRITZ!Box. If the FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network is not displayed, follow the steps in our guide FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network cannot be found.
Note:If necessary, you can determine the Wi-Fi network name and Wi-Fi network key of the FRITZ!Box as described in our guide Setting up a Wi-Fi connection to the FRITZ!Box.
- Enter the FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network key in the "Password" field and tap "Connect".
- Now the Wi-Fi connection is established and the Android device can access the internet using the FRITZ!Box.
2 Using the FRITZ!Box with a smartphone or tablet
Accessing files on FRITZ!NAS
If you want to access files on a USB storage device connected to the FRITZ!Box:
- Configure MyFRITZ!App, call up http://fritz.nas in a web browser, or use a different app that supports the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol to access your FRITZ!NAS contents via \\fritz.nas.
Playing multimedia content from the FRITZ!Box media server
If you want to use the FRITZ!Box as a media server and want to play photos, videos, or music from the FRITZ!Box media server:
- Install VLC for Android or another app that can play files from UPnP AV (Universal Plug and Play Audio/Video) media servers.
Making calls using the FRITZ!Box's landline rate
If you want to make calls using the landline rate and the telephone numbers configured in the FRITZ!Box:
- Set up FRITZ!App Fon.
Accessing the FRITZ!Box when you are away from home
If you want to securely access your FRITZ!Box over the internet when you are away from home:
- Set up MyFRITZ!App.
Setting up a VPN connection to the FRITZ!Box
If you want to establish a securely encrypted network connection (VPN, Virtual Private Network) to your FRITZ!Box and devices in the home network over the internet when you are away from home:
- Use either WireGuard or IPSec to configure the VPN connection to the FRITZ!Box.
