DECT range is too low

The range of the DECT connection between a cordless telephone and the FRITZ!Box is too low. Even at a short distance from the FRITZ!Box, the connection drops or is interrupted, or you hear an annoying crackling when conducting calls over DECT. The telephone may completely lose the DECT connection and show the error "Search for base" on its display.

Cause

  • Surrounding structural conditions (such as thickness and reinforcement of the walls) as well as other radio equipment such as microwaves and baby monitors influence the quality and thus the range of the DECT connection.

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Installing the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box

  1. Install the latest FRITZ!OS on the FRITZ!Box.

2 Installing the latest software for your telephone

The following steps are only necessary if you are using a FRITZ!Fon:

  1. Install the latest software on the telephone.

3 Recharging the telephone battery

  1. Fully charge the telephone battery. Leave the telephone in the charging station for at least 12 hours.

4 Configuring the FRITZ!Box

Disabling "Reduce DECT field strength"

  1. Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
  3. Disable the option "Reduce DECT field strength" in the section "Radio Field Strength".
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Disabling "DECT Eco"

  1. Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
  3. Disable the option "DECT Eco" in the section "Radio Field Strength".
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

5 Turning off other base stations

  1. For testing purposes, switch off other base stations in the vicinity of the FRITZ!Box.
  2. If the problem no longer occurs then, switch off the other base station or place the base station farther away from the FRITZ!Box.

6 Removing USB 3.0 devices from the FRITZ!Box

  1. For testing purposes, remove all of the USB 3.0 devices from the FRITZ!Box's USB ports.
  2. If the problem no longer occurs then, a USB device was interfering with the radio connection. Eliminate the interference caused by the USB device.

Now the FRITZ!Box is ideally configured and you will achieve the best possible DECT range between your cordless telephones and the FRITZ!Box.

Note:To establish DECT connections over even greater distances or in unfavorable environments, you can increase the DECT range of the FRITZ!Box with a DECT repeater. For example, you can use a FRITZ!DECT Repeater 100 as a DECT repeater.
