Setting up group switching for smart home devices

You can combine several smart home devices into a group and then easily switch and control them together. Then you can switch a group of several smart plugs, for example FRITZ!DECT 200, automatically according to a schedule or depending on temperature. If necessary, you can also manually switch a group on and off for which a schedule is set up.
In addition, you can also define a so-called "master" as the switching actuator that switches the whole group when it is switched.

You can also organize radiator controls, for example FRITZ!DECT 301, into groups and then easily control several radiators in the same room together, for example.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • If you have a group with smart plugs for which you set up temperature-based switching, it is not possible to manually switch the group or an individual device in the group.

1 Creating a group

  1. Click "Smart Home" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Groups and Templates" in the "Smart Home" menu.
  3. Click on the "Create Group" button.
  4. Enable the corresponding group of devices.
  5. Click the drop-down menu and select the devices you want to switch together in the group.
  6. Click "Next".
  7. Enter a name for the group and click "Next". The group is then created.

2 Switching a group with smart plugs

Smart plugs that you have grouped together can either be switched automatically, via a "Master", or manually, if necessary:

Switching a group automatically

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Select the option "All groups" from the drop-down list "viewing".
  4. Click the (Edit) button for the "Group switch" of the group you want to configure automatic switching for.
  5. In the section "Automatic switching", select "Switch group automatically" and set up the desired schedule.
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Switching a group via a "Master"

You can define a smart home device as the so-called "master". When it is switched automatically or manually, all devices in the "master's" group are switched as well. The "master" does not have to belong to the group you want to switch:

  1. Click "Smart Home" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Groups and Templates" in the "Smart Home" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button that corresponds to the group for which you want to configure switching via a "Master".
  4. In the section "Automatic switching", enable the option "Switch a group via a Smart Home device" and select the device you want to use as the "Master" in the drop-down list "Smart Home Device".
  5. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Switching a group manually

If you manually switch a group that you also set up an automatic switching schedule for, the manual switching applies until the next automatic switching time occurs:

  1. Click "Smart Home" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Operation" in the "Smart Home" menu.
  3. Click on the On/Off switch for the group.

Note:You can also manually switch the smart home group with a FRITZ!Fon (Menu "Home Network > Smart Home") and a FRITZ!DECT smart switch, or use FRITZ!App Smart Home to switch it in the home network or over the internet.

3 Controlling a group with radiator controls

Radiator controls that you have grouped together can either be controlled automatically or manually:

Automatically controlling a group with a radiator control

  1. Click "Smart Home" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Groups and Templates" in the "Smart Home" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the group you want to set up automatic switching for.
  4. Set up the desired time and vacation switching.
  5. Under "Heat off", define when the radiator should not heat.
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Manually controlling a group with a radiator control

  1. Click "Smart Home" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Operation" in the "Smart Home" menu.
  3. Click the plus or minus that corresponds to the group to change the temperature of the group.

Note:You can also manually switch the radiator group with a FRITZ!Fon (Menu "Home Network > Smart Home"), a FRITZ!DECT 440, or use FRITZ!App Smart Home to switch it in the home network or over the internet.
With FRITZ!OS 7.20 or later you can also simply change the temperature on an individual radiator control in the group. The desired temperature change is then automatically transmitted to all of the radiator controls in the group.
You can save customized heating profiles as templates that you can activate as needed.
