Setting up FRITZ!Box for use with a Virgin Telco line
To use the FRITZ!Box with Virgin Telco, simply connect it to the fiber optic modem from Virgin Telco and configure the internet connection and telephony in the FRITZ!Box. The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and multimedia is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Asking for account information
- Call Virgin Telco's customer service and ask for the following information:
- the VLAN ID and PBit for the internet connection.
Note:In its own fiber optic network, Virgin Telco uses VLAN ID 10 and PBit 0. VLAN ID 20 or 24 and PBit 0, 3 or 5 is used for NEBA fiber optic connections.
- the login information for telephony (for example the username and password).
- the VLAN ID and PBit for the internet connection.
2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box
- Insert one end of a network cable into the "LAN 1" port on the FRITZ!Box. Use the network cable supplied with the FRITZ!Box, for example.
- Insert the other end of the network cable into the LAN port on the fiber optic modem (ONT, Optical Network Termination).
3 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box
- Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Account Information" in the "Internet" menu.
- Select "other internet service provider" from the drop-down list.
- Enable the option "Connection to an external modem or router" in the "Connect via" area.
- Enable the option "Establish own connection to the internet" in the section "Operating Mode".
- Enable the option "No" in the section "Account Information".
- Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the "Downstream" and "Upstream" fields.
- Click "Change connection settings".
- Enable the option "Use VLAN for internet access".
- In the fields "VLAN ID" und "PBit", enter the data you received from Virgin Telco.
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
- Now the FRITZ!Box checks whether the internet connection can be established. Configuration is completed as soon as the message "The internet connection check was successful" is displayed.
Important:If the internet connection check fails, your internet access may not have been activated yet. In this case, contact Virgin Telco.
4 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box
Configuring telephone numbers
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click the "New Telephone Number" button.
- Select "Other provider" from the drop-down list.
- Enter your telephone number without +34 (for example 911234567) by "Telephone number for registration" and "Internal telephone number in the FRITZ!Box".
- Enter the login information you received from Virgin Telco by "Username" and "Password".
- Enter ims.virgintelco.es in the field "Registrar".
- Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.
Assigning telephone numbers
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.
Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.
- From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making calls.
- Select the telephone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
