Configuring the FRITZ!Box as a DECT Repeater
You can configure your FRITZ!Box as a DECT repeater and use it to increase the DECT range of a FRITZ!Box (base station). Instead of a FRITZ!Box, you can also use a FRITZ!DECT Repeater or a DECT repeater from another manufacturer.
Requirements / Restrictions
- A FRITZ!Box 7390, FRITZ!Box 7270 v3, or a FRITZ!Box 7240 with the latest FRITZ!OS must be used as the repeater. Other FRITZ!Box models do not support this function.
- It is not possible to register DECT repeaters from other manufacturers and FRITZ!Boxes in DECT repeater mode at the same time. FRITZ!DECT Repeaters and FRITZ!Boxes can be registered at the same time.
- A maximum of six repeaters can be registered. All repeaters must be directly registered with the base station (star topology). It is not possible to register a repeater with another repeater (cascading).
- The "DECT Eco" function is no longer available.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Configuring the base station
Disabling "Reduce DECT field strength"
- Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
- Disable the option "Reduce DECT field strength" in the section "Radio Field Strength".
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
Enabling encryption
- Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
- Enable the option "Permit only secure DECT connections (recommended)" in the section "Security".
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
- If the option was disabled, you must then restart the FRITZ!Box once using the user interface ("System > Backup > Restart").
Disabling DECT Eco
- Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
- Disable the option "DECT Eco" in the section "Radio Field Strength".
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
Setting a PIN
- Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
- Enter a four-digit PIN in the section "Registration".
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
Important:The PIN may not be changed even after you have successfully registered the repeater!
2 Configuring the repeater
Assign the same PIN to the FRITZ!Box you will use as the repeater that you assigned to the base station, and enable the DECT repeater mode:
- Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Repeater" in the "DECT" menu.
- Select the "DECT repeater enabled" option.
- Enter the DECT base station's four-digit PIN.
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
After applying the setting, the "DECT" or "Info" LED on the repeater starts to flash and the repeater is then in registration mode.
3 Establishing a DECT connection
- Position both FRITZ!Boxes close together, even if you want to position the repeater farther away later.
- Now push the "DECT" button on your base station. Hold down the button for at least 6 seconds until the "DECT" or "Info" LED on the base station starts to flash.
The repeater is registered with the base station when the "DECT" or "Info" LED on both devices stops flashing. It is then displayed by the DECT monitor under "DECT > DECT Monitor" in the user interface of the base station.
4 Finding the ideal location for the repeater
- Select a location for the repeater where a telephone that is registered directly with the base station still has perfect reception. Depending on the setting in the user interface, the "DECT" LED or "Info" LED on the repeater must either remain lit or not be lit at all. If the LED flashes, the repeater is not connected to the base station. In addition, at the location you select for the repeater, voice transmission with every telephone must be absolutely interference-free in both directions when the repeater is switched off. Otherwise, the location is not a suitable place to position the repeater.
Now the repeater extends the DECT range of the base station. Register new telephones with the base station. You cannot register telephones with the repeater.
Note:FRITZ!Fons now display a small red 1 over the signal strength bars when they are logged onto the base station and a 2 when they are logged onto the repeater. If you are using several repeaters, the numbers 2 to 7 are used.
