Network device does not start automatically when accessed from the internet
Although the option "Start this computer automatically as soon as it is accessed from the internet" is enabled for a network device in the FRITZ!Box, it does not automatically start when it is accessed from the internet.
Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Configuring a network device
- Enable "Wake on LAN" and a suitable hibernation mode ("S3" to "S5") in the network device, for example in the computer's BIOS menu. Refer to the manufacturer of the device for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.
2 Using the FRITZ!Box user interface to start the network device
The FRITZ!Box can only send the Magic Packet required to automatically start the network device if the device was inactive during the last 15 minutes. If the device was active within the last 15 minutes, use the FRITZ!Box user interface to start it manually:
- Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Home Network" and then "Network" in the user interface.
- Click on the "Network Connections" tab.
- Click the (Edit) button for the network device you want to have started.
- Click the "Start Computer" button in the section "LAN Connection".
Now the device will be awoken from hibernation. You can access shared files and server services on the device shortly afterward, often after only a couple of seconds.
