Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with an o2 cable connection

The FRITZ!Box Cable is optimally prepared for use with an o2 cable connection. Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the multimedia outlet, have o2 activate the FRITZ!Box, and configure telephony. If o2 provided you with the FRITZ!Box, it is already activated and will be configured automatically.

The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and smart home is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

1 Activating the FRITZ!Box

Serial number and CM MAC
  1. Visit www.o2.de/mein-o2 and activate the FRITZ!Box in the o2 customer portal or call o2's customer service at 089 787979400 to have them unlock the FRITZ!Box. For this, enter the MAC address of your FRITZ!Box's cable modem (CM MAC). You can find these on the FRITZ!Box's type label.

2 Connecting the FRITZ!Box

  1. Insert one end of the coaxial cable into the "Cable" port on the FRITZ!Box. Use the coaxial cable supplied with the FRITZ!Box, for example.
  2. Insert the other end of the coaxial cable into the socket for the internet connection (data socket) on the multimedia outlet in your home.

3 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password given on the type label of the FRITZ!Box and click "Log In".
  3. If the menu "Set up Internet Connection" is not displayed automatically:
    1. Click "Internet" and then "Account Information".
    2. Enable the option "Internet connection via cable".
  4. Wait until the "Power / Cable" LED remains lit. Depending on the signal strength and the way your connection is configured, this may take up to 10 minutes.

    Important:If the "Power / Cable" LED flashes continuously, the cable connection has not been activated yet or the service is disrupted. In this case, contact o2.

  5. Click "Apply" or "Next" to save the settings. Restart the FRITZ!Box to complete the configuration of your internet connection.

4 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Having your login information ready

  1. Have the login information for telephony ready that was displayed in the o2 customer portal www.o2.de/mein-o2 under "Tarife & Optionen > Vertrag verwalten".

    Note:If your login information is not displayed in the customer portal although the cable connection is activated, contact o2.

Configuring telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the "New Telephone Number" button.
  4. Select "o2" from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter your area code and telephone number by "Telephone Number".
  6. Enter the login information you received from o2 by "SIP username" and "SIP password".
  7. Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.

Disabling Dynamic Quality of Service

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click on the "Line Settings" tab.
  4. Click "Changing the Settings" in the "Telephony connection" section.
  5. Disable the option "Provider supports DQoS (Dynamic Quality of Service)"
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Assigning telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making calls.
  5. Select the telephone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
