Setting up a printer connected to the FRITZ!Box

You want to set up a printer connected to the FRITZ!Box? ✔ Here you'll find the step-by-step instructions.

You can easily connect your printer to the FRITZ!Box home network using a network cable or Wi-Fi and use it as a network printer on all devices in the home network. Since the printer itself accepts and processes all of the print jobs, you do not need to configure any specific settings for the printer in the FRITZ!Box.

If your printer only has a USB port, you can also use a USB cable to connect it to the FRITZ!Box. However, with a USB connection you cannot use all of the printer's functions or use the printer with all devices in the home network.

1 Using a network cable or Wi-Fi to connect the printer

If you use a network cable or Wi-Fi to connect the printer, you can

  • use the printer with all devices in the home network.
  • use the ink level indicator of the printer.
  • fax and scan with the printer if it is a multifunction printer, a multifunction device, or an "all-in-one" device.
  • achieve the best printing results and the fastest printing speed.

2 Connecting the USB printer via USB cable

If you configure the USB printer as a network printer, you

  • can use the printer with computers, Android smartphones, and Android tablets.
  • cannot use the printer with iPhones and iPads.
  • cannot use the ink level indicator of the printer.
  • cannot fax and scan with the all-in-one printer.
