Using a DECT headset with the FRITZ!Box

Besides cordless telephones and smart home devices, you can also register DECT headsets with the FRITZ!Box and make calls with them.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • A FRITZ!Fon M2, C4, C5, C6 or X6 is being used.
  • The headset must support the DECT-GAP profile.
  • A maximum of six headsets and cordless telephones can be registered with the FRITZ!Box.

Note:This guide is valid for FRITZ!OS 7.50 or later. If you are using an older FRITZ!OS version, the configuration may differ or functions may not be available. You can find the FRITZ!OS version on the "Overview" page of the FRITZ!Box user interface.

1 Registering a headset with FRITZ!Box

For automatic registration to work, you must set the PIN to "0000" in the FRITZ!Box user interface:

Registering a headset by button

  1. Set your headset to registration mode. The procedure depends on the headset you are using. Refer to the manufacturer of the device for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.
  2. Within 2 minutes: Push the DECT button on the FRITZ!Box. Hold down the button for at least 6 seconds until the DECT or Info LED on the FRITZ!Box starts to flash. The FRITZ!Box is in registration mode as long as the LED flashes.

Using the FRITZ!Box wizard to register a headset

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click on the "Configure New Device" button.
  4. Enable the option "Telephone (with or without answering machine)" and click "Next".
  5. Enable the option "Cordless (DECT) telephone" and click "Next".
  6. Start the registration procedure on your headset, then click "Connect" and follow the instructions.

2 Connecting the headset to FRITZ!Fon

  1. Press the "Menu" key on the telephone.
  2. Scroll to "Settings" and press "OK".
  3. "Telephony" > "OK" > "Select DECT headset" > "OK"
  4. Select the desired headset and press "OK".

3 Accepting calls with the headset

A ringtone signals incoming calls on the headset and calls can be accepted by pressing a button, just like with cordless telephones.

You can answer calls on the paired FRITZ!Fon by holding down the green call key (pick up the handset) or using the "Accept" softkey. Calls made to only FRITZ!Fon can be forwarded to the headset by holding down the call key or pressing "Accept". It is not necessary to assign the same telephone number to the headset and the FRITZ!Fon.

4 Making calls with the headset

  1. Enter the telephone number on the FRITZ!Fon or select an entry from the telephone book or the call list.
  2. Press and hold the call key (pick up the handset). Holding the button signals to the FRITZ!Fon that the call should be made using the paired headset.
  3. Press the call button on the headset as soon as you hear the signal for an incoming call on the headset. The call to the other party will be established.

Note:If you connect calls to the headset by holding down the call button, the calls are not displayed in FRITZ!Fon's call list. You must briefly press the call button to redial the number, you cannot use the call list to do so.

5 Entering digits and using other convenience functions

If you want to dial digits while using a headset, for example to use the automated telephone system of a call center or enter a PIN, you can enter these digits on the paired FRITZ!Fon while it is connected and have them dialed by holding down the call key.

You can use other convenience functions such as transferring a call from the headset to FRITZ!Fon, consultation, alternating between calls, three-party conference calling, accepting or rejecting a waiting call on the paired FRITZ!Fon by pressing the right menu button and selecting options.

With some headsets, you can also use the call answer button on the headset to accept an incoming call, make an outgoing call or respond to an ongoing call on the paired FRITZ!Fon.
