FRITZ!Box reports "Access to the fixed IP address [...] was prevented by the website filter"

A device or application (for example Amazon Fire TV or Netflix) cannot access the internet. The following message is displayed in the event log of the FRITZ!Box:

"Access to the fixed IP address [...] was prevented by the website filter."

Cause

  • The filter for websites is enabled in the parental controls for the device. This prevents the device from directly accessing IP addresses on the internet.

Perform the step that is appropriate for you.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Disabling parental controls for the device

If it is not necessary to configure parental controls for the device, assign the device to the "Unrestricted" access profile to disable them:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filters" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click "Change Access Profiles".
  4. Select the access profile "Unrestricted" for the respective device from the drop-down list.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

2 Disabling filters for websites

If you set up a time limit for the device but do not need to restrict access to websites, disable the website filter:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filters" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "Access Profiles" tab.
  4. Click the (Edit) button for the access profile you want to configure.
  5. Disable the option "Filter websites" in the section "Filters for Web Pages".
  6. Click "OK" to save the access profile.

3 Adjusting filters for websites

If the the filter for websites should remain enabled for the device, configure an exception for the blocked IP addresses:

Preparations

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filters" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "Lists" tab.
  4. Click the "Edit" link next to the list "Permitted IP addresses".
  5. Click the link "Delete all non-allowed IP addresses from the list".
  6. Click "OK" when you are asked "Do you really want to delete all non-allowed IP addresses from the list?".
  7. Click "OK" to save the list.

Reproducing the error

  1. To reproduce the error, start the respective device or application and then attempt to access the internet.

    Example:
    If your virus scanner automatically searches for updates each time Windows starts but cannot download them, restart the computer.

Allowing access to blocked IP addresses

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filters" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "Lists" tab.
  4. Click the "Edit" link next to the list "Permitted IP addresses".
  5. Allow access to the IP addresses directly accessed by the device.
  6. Click "OK" to save the list.
