Status information for a printer connected to the FRITZ!Box is not available
Computers in the home network cannot retrieve status information like ink or paper level for a printer when the printer is connected to the FRITZ!Box via USB cable and configured as a network printer.
Status information is not available for USB network printers
Two-way communication (bidirectional connection) between the printer and the computer is necessary for transmitting status information. However, the FRITZ!Box's printer server does not support bidirectional connections. As a result, the status information of printers is not available when they are connected to the FRITZ!Box via USB cable and configured as network printers.
It is only possible to retrieve status information if you connect the printer to the FRITZ!Box via network cable or Wi-Fi or use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software to connect the printer to a computer. However, if you use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software, only one device can access the printer at a time.
