Files cannot be deleted from FRITZ!NAS

Files on FRITZ!NAS (http://fritz.nas) cannot be deleted. When you try to delete files, the following error message may be displayed:

"Error: [...] Because one of the parameters submitted was incorrect, deletion cannot be carried out."

1 Removing write protection

  1. Make sure that the USB storage device is not write-protected. Some USB memory sticks have a write-protection switch to enable write protection, for example.

2 Installing the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box

  1. Install the latest FRITZ!OS on the FRITZ!Box.

3 Enabling automatic file index refresh

Enable the FRITZ!Box's automatic file index refresh option so that the FRITZ!Box can automatically index new files when they are copied to a storage device connected to the FRITZ!Box:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "USB / Storage" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Enable the option "Refresh index automatically".
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

4 Deleting and generating a new file index

Deleting the file index

  1. Use SMB or FTP to access the storage device in question and switch to the directory \FRITZ\mediabox (for example call up \\fritz.box\FRITZ\mediabox in the Windows Explorer or smb://fritz.box/FRITZ/mediabox in the macOS Finder) on the storage device.
  2. Delete the database files for the file index. The file extension of the file index is ".db3", and the file name may vary, for example fritznasdb_part.db3 or fritznasdb_ptmp.db3.

Generating a new file index

  1. Open the FRITZ!NAS user interface (http://fritz.nas) to start generating the file index.
