FRITZ!Box reports "Login failed" when username and password are needed to access FRITZ!Box

Access to the FRITZ!Box is denied when you enter the username and password, although a FRITZ!Box user with this login data was set up. The following error message is displayed:

  • "Login failed. Did you make a typing error, or do you not have the right to access this area?"

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Using the access method that corresponds to FRITZ!Box user rights

User accesses the FRITZ!Box from the home network

A user can only access the FRITZ!Box by entering http://fritz.box if that specific user was granted the right "FRITZ!Box Settings". Users who were not granted this right can access the FRITZ!Box as follows:

Note:You can edit the access rights of FRITZ!Box users under "System > FRITZ!Box Users" in the user interface.

  • Have users enter http://myfritz.box to access the FRITZ!Box via the MyFRITZ! home page,

    Note:You do not need to set up a MyFRITZ! account to access the MyFRITZ! home page of the FRITZ!Box from the home network! A MyFRITZ! account is only required if you also want to safely and conveniently access the FRITZ!Box from the internet.

    • or, if the users were only granted the right to access NAS contents:

User accesses the FRITZ!Box from the internet

Direct access to the FRITZ!Box via the MyFRITZ! address or dynamic DNS domain name of the FRITZ!Box (for example pi80ewgfi72d2os42.myfritz.net or fritzbox.dyndns.org) is only possible if the respective user was assigned the right "FRITZ!Box Settings".

Users who were not granted this right can access the FRITZ!Box as follows:

  • Have users enter
    • https://[MyFRITZ! address of FRITZ!Box]/myfritz
    • or
    • https://[Dynamic DNS domain name]/myfritz
    • to access the FRITZ!Box via the MyFRITZ! home page.
    • If the FRITZ!Box does not use the default HTTPS port 443, add the HTTPS port used by the FRITZ!Box to the domain name.

      Example:
      If HTTPS port 443 is used for access:
      https://pi80ewgfi72d2os42.myfritz.net/myfritz or https://fritzbox.dyndns.org/myfritz
      If a different HTTPS port is used for access:
      https://pi80ewgfi72d2os42.myfritz.net:49478/myfritz or https://fritzbox.dyndns.org:49478/myfritz

    • Or, if the users were only granted the right to access NAS contents:
      • Have users enter
        • https://[MyFRITZ! address of FRITZ!Box]/nas
        • or
        • https://[Dynamic DNS domain name]/nas
        • to call up FRITZ!NAS.
        • If the FRITZ!Box does not use the default HTTPS port 443, add the HTTPS port used by the FRITZ!Box to the domain name.
          • Example:
            If HTTPS port 443 is used for access:
            https://pi80ewgfi72d2os42.myfritz.net/nas
            If a different HTTPS port is used for access:
            https://fritzbox.dyndns.org:49478/nas

2 Forgot password

The following steps are only necessary if you forgot the username or password and can therefore no longer access the FRITZ!Box user interface at all and change settings:
