FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber receives certification from Broadband Forum
The FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber has received BBF.247 certification for the two fiber optic technologies GPON and XGS-PON from the global Broadband Forum (BBF). The successful tests confirm conformity with the important standards and thus the smooth operation of the FRITZ!Box in fiber optic networks. The BBF established product certification at the request of network providers to further improve interoperability in the fiber optics market, thus providing greater choice in customer devices. The certification also confirms that terminal devices with integrated fiber optics such as FRITZ!Box run in networks in compliance with standards.
The FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber can be used directly at any fiber optic connection without a pre-installed modem or media converter, which is a plus for users. Integrated terminal devices or modem routers have already become established on the customer side in advanced fiber optic markets such as Switzerland, France or Spain. This is also shown by the total number of fiber optic terminal devices certified by the BBF worldwide: among the 146 terminal devices, there are 92 modem routers and only 47 modems or ONTs. The separation into two active devices at the fiber optic connection, which is still common in Germany, is obsolete and has disadvantages in terms of cost-effectiveness for the provider and acceptance by the end customer. With integrated devices such as a FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber, the electricity costs for a separate modem are eliminated and updates are provided centrally for one device.
The FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber enables transmission rates of up to 10 gigabits per second. To distribute the high speeds throughout the home, the FRITZ!Box 5590 Fiber comes equipped with powerful Wi-Fi 6, a 2.5 gigabit WAN/LAN port, and four additional gigabit LAN ports. A DECT base station for telephony and Smart Home applications as well as a USB 3.0 port for connecting printers and storage media and a versatile FRITZ!OS complete the range of features.
