Configuring a computer to automatically obtain IP settings (DHCP)
The computer with the FRITZ!WLAN Stick needs specific IP settings automatically assigned by the FRITZ!Box's DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server to communicate with the FRITZ!Box. For this, you must first configure the computer to automatically obtain IP settings (DHCP client).
Windows 11
- Click (Start) and then (Settings) in the Windows task bar.
- Click "Network & Internet" in the "Settings" menu.
- Click "Properties" next to the entry for the network connection of the computer.
- Click "Edit" in the "IP assignment" section.
- In the window "Edit IP settings", enable the option "Automatic (DHCP)" and click "Save".
Windows 10
- Click (Start) and then (Settings) in the Windows task bar.
- Click "Network & Internet" in the "Settings" menu.
- Click "Change adapter options" in the section "Advanced network settings".
- Click the arrow next to the (Change view) button in the menu bar and select "Details".
- Right-click the connection that lists the FRITZ!WLAN Stick under "Device Name".
- Click "Properties".
- Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)".
- Click "Properties".
- Enable the options "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically".
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
