FRITZ!Box USB remote connection does not start
The FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software does not start. One of the following error messages may be displayed:
- "Cannot Start Application"
- "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection has stopped working"
- "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection has detected a problem and must shut down."
Cause
- The FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software or .NET Framework from Windows is not properly installed.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest firmware for the FRITZ!Repeater.
1 Installing the latest Windows updates
The FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software requires a correctly installed .Net Framework. The .Net Framework is part of the operating system and is updated with the Windows Update.
- Install the Windows updates available for your Windows version. You can find information on downloading and installing them on the internet at www.microsoft.com.
2 Uninstalling the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software
Windows 10
- Click (Start) and then (Settings) in the Windows task bar.
- Click "Apps" in the "Settings" menu.
- Click on the entry "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection" and then "Uninstall" in the section "Apps & features".
- Confirm your choice and click "Yes" in the window "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?".
- Click "Remove the application from this computer" in the window "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection Maintenance" and then click "OK".
Windows 8
- Press the keyboard shortcut Windows key + X and select "Control Panel" from the context menu.
- Click "Programs" and then "Programs and Features".
- Double-click the entry "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection".
- The window "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection Maintenance" opens.
- Select the option "Remove the application from this computer" in the window "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection Maintenance" and click "OK".
Windows 7
- In Windows, click "Start" and then "Control Panel".
- Select "Category" from the drop-down list "View by:" on the top right ().
- Click "Uninstall a program".
- Double-click the entry "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection".
- The window "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection Maintenance" opens.
- Select the option "Remove the application from this computer" in the window "FRITZ!Box USB remote connection Maintenance" and click "OK".
3 Installing the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software
- On the computer connected to the FRITZ!Repeater, log on as the Windows user who wants to use the USB remote connection.
Important:If the user does not have administrator rights, you must enter a valid administrator password when installing or starting the software for the first time.
- Click "Audio" in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
- Click "Audio Output" in the "Audio" menu.
- Click "program for the audio bridge".
- Click "Download" in the window "FRITZ!Repeater Audio Bridge".
- Download the file "fritzbox-usb-fernanschluss.application".
- Double-click the file and follow the instructions on your screen.
- Repeat steps 1 - 7 for all other Windows users who want to use the USB remote connection on this computer.
You will now be able to configure and use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection.
