Connecting a wireless device directly with FRITZ!Powerline

If you set up your FRITZ!Powerline adapter as described in our guide Setting up FRITZ!Powerline in the FRITZ!Box home network, the FRITZ!Powerline adapter adopts the Wi-Fi network name and network key of the FRITZ!Box during setup. This allows your wireless devices to automatically connect to the best Wi-Fi network.

If you customized the FRITZ!Powerline adapter with individual Wi-Fi settings, connect your wireless devices directly with the FRITZ!Powerline adapter.

  • If your wireless device supports setting up connections automatically with WPS, set up the connection by pushing a button.
  • If your wireless device does not support WPS, set up the connection manually.

1 Setting up the Wi-Fi connection by pushing a button

You can easily connect Windows computers, mobile devices with Android 8 and earlier, and also other wireless devices that support WPS with the FRITZ!Powerline adapter at the touch of a button. Here we show you how to set it up using Windows 10 as an example:

  1. Click (Start) and then (Settings) in the Windows task bar.
  2. Click "Network and Internet" and then "Wi-Fi" in the "Settings" menu.
  3. In the list of available connections, click the one that displays the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID) of the FRITZ!Powerline adapter and then "Connect".
  4. As soon as Windows asks you to enter the network security key, briefly push the "WLAN·WPS" button on the FRITZ!Powerline adapter (for about 1 second) and let go of it again. When you release the button, the "WLAN·WPS" and the "Powerline·Security" LEDs start to flash at the same time.

Important:If the message "You can also connect by pushing..." is not displayed, the computer does not support WPS. In this case, set up the Wi-Fi connection manually.

  5. Click "Yes" when you are asked "Do you want to allow your PC to be discoverable by other PCs and devices on this network?".
