FRITZ!Powerline 1260E

FRITZ!Powerline's Wi-Fi network cannot be found

A notebook, smartphone, tablet, or another wireless device cannot find the FRITZ!Powerline device's Wi-Fi network. When it searches for Wi-Fi networks, the name of the FRITZ!Powerline device's Wi-Fi network (SSID) is not displayed.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Powerline device.

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.

1 FRITZ!Powerline device adopts Wi-Fi network name in the Mesh

In the Mesh, the FRITZ!Powerline device adopts all of the settings from the FRITZ!Box (Mesh Master). If you want to connect wireless devices only to the Wi-Fi network of the FRITZ!Powerline device, disable adoption of the settings from the Mesh and set a unique network name (SSID) in the FRITZ!Powerline device:

  1. Disable the adoption of settings from the Mesh.
  2. Click "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") in the user interface of FRITZ!Powerline.
  3. Click "Wi-Fi Network" ("Radio Network") in the "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") menu.
  4. Enter a unique name in the field "Name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)".
  5. If you want to use different Wi-Fi network names for the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks, enable the option "Different names for the radio network on 2.4 and 5 GHz" and enter unique names in both fields.

Important:We recommend using the same name for both Wi-Fi networks so that wireless devices are automatically steered to the most suitable Wi-Fi network (Mesh Wi-Fi steering).

  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  7. Reconfigure the Wi-Fi connection to the FRITZ!Powerline device.

2 Enabling the Wi-Fi network

The following step is only necessary if the WLAN LED on the FRITZ!Powerline device is not lit:

  1. Click "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") in the user interface of FRITZ!Powerline.
  2. Click "Wi-Fi Channel" ("Radio Channel") in the "Wi-Fi" ("Wireless") menu.
  3. Enable the option "Adjust Wi-Fi channel settings".
  4. Enable the Wi-Fi network for the 2.4 and the 5 GHz frequency bands.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

3 Enabling the wireless network adapter

Some notebooks have a special switch or key combination that allows you to switch integrated Wi-Fi network adapters on and off:

  • Enable the wireless adapter of the wireless device that you want to connect to FRITZ!Powerline's Wi-Fi network.

Note:Refer to the manufacturer for information on enabling it, for example consult the manual.

4 Installing the latest software for the wireless device

  1. Install the latest software version for the wireless device (for example Android, iOS) or the latest driver for the computer's wireless network adapter (for example from the Intel Download Center).

Note:Refer to the device's manufacturer for information on how to update, for example consult the manual.

5 Finding the ideal location for the FRITZ!Powerline device

  1. Position the FRITZ!Powerline device where the quality of the router's Wi-Fi signal is good. You can find tips on positioning it in the guide Finding the ideal location for FRITZ!Powerline.

6 Testing a different wireless device

  1. Check whether a different wireless device can find the FRITZ!Powerline device's Wi-Fi network.

If the second wireless device can find the FRITZ!Powerline device's Wi-Fi network, the first wireless device may be defective.
