Reading and sending emails on the FRITZ!Fon

You can set up as many as 10 email accounts in the FRITZ!Box. Then FRITZ!Fon notifies you about new emails and displays up to 16 emails per email account and up to a total of 128 emails. If you are using several telephones, you can use a different email account for each FRITZ!Fon.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • The FRITZ!Fon must be registered with a FRITZ!Box.
  • You must use an email account with a POP3 incoming mail server.
  • POP3 download must be enabled with your email provider.

    Note:You can enable download in your email account settings. Contact your email provider for information on how to set it up.

1 Setting up email accounts

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click on the "Email" tab.
  4. Click the "New Email Account" button.
  5. Enter your email address and password.

    Note:In most cases, the FRITZ!Box automatically completes the following information. With smaller local providers, you have to enter it yourself. The required information is supplied by your DSL provider.

  6. Enter your username and the name of your email provider's POP3 server.
  7. If the server supports SSL, enable the option "This server supports a secure connection (SSL)".
  8. Click on the "Additional Settings" tab.
  9. Define how often the FRITZ!Box should retrieve emails from the incoming mail server. The retrieval interval may be between 5 minutes and 24 hours.
  10. If you want to be notified about new emails, enable the option "Automatically signal new email on the FRITZ!Fon".

    Note:The telephone will then beep, the LED will flash red, and the envelope icon will be shown in the display to signal the arrival of new email.

  11. If you also want to send email with your FRITZ!Fon, enable the option "Allow email to be sent from FRITZ!Fon cordless telephones".
  12. Enter the name of your email provider's SMTP server.
  13. If the server is not accessible on port 25, enter the port used by the server to communicate in the "Port" field, for example 587.
  14. If the server supports SSL, enable the option "This server supports a secure connection (SSL)".
  15. Enter a name without special characters in the "Name of sender" field.
  16. If you want to allow emails to be deleted with the telephone, enable the option "Deletion of read email on FRITZ!Fon enabled" and specify whether emails should only be deleted from the telephone's display or whether they should also be deleted from your inbox with your email provider.
  17. If a PIN should be required to access your emails on the telephone, enable the option "Protect email access with a PIN" and set a PIN.
  18. If you registered several FRITZ!Fons with the FRITZ!Box, define whether the emails from this account should be displayed on all or only on certain telephones.
  19. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

2 Reading email

  1. Press the "Menu" key on the telephone.
  2. Scroll to "Internet services" and press "OK".
  3. "Email" > "OK"

3 Sending emails

  1. Press the "Menu" key on the telephone.
  2. Scroll to "Internet services" and press "OK".
  3. "Email" > "OK" > "Options" > "New email" > "OK"
  4. Enter a subject line and the text of the email.
  5. Press "Options".
  6. If you saved the recipient's email address in the telephone book, select "Telephone book".
    • If you want to enter the email address manually, select "Send to mailing list" and enter the recipient's address.
  7. "Options" > "Send" > "OK"

    Note:Emails sent with your FRITZ!Fon are not displayed in the outbox of your email account.

4 Deleting an email account

If you no longer want to use a particular email account, you can completely delete it from the FRITZ!Box:

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click on the "Email" tab.
  4. Click the (Delete) button for the respective email account.
  5. Click the "OK" button.

Restarting the FRITZ!Box

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Backup" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Restart" tab.
  4. Click the "Restart" button.

The emails will no longer be displayed on the telephone.
