Having the push service send status messages on smart home devices

At regular intervals, your FRITZ!Box can send you emails, so-called "push service mails", to report on the status of your smart home device and give you information about its use. You can specify which events you want to be informed about and how often these emails should be sent. Push services are available for various functions.
Depending on the settings, the push service sends emails with information about the output, consumption, and switching status of your smart home device.

Example:
Your washing machine is connected to the smart plug, for example FRITZ!DECT 200. As soon as the washing cycle has finished, i.e. when the washing machine switches to standby mode, you want to receive corresponding notification by email.

In this guide we use this example to show you a possible application scenario and how to configure the push service for smart home.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Configuring a smart home device

  1. Click "Smart Home" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Device Management" or "Devices and Groups" in the "Smart Home" menu.
  3. Click the button (Edit) for the respective device.
  4. Click on the "Switch Automatically" tab.
  5. Enable the option "Switch off on standby", then select a power threshold and the duration.
  6. Click "OK" or "Apply" to save the settings.

2 Configuring the push service

Entering email account information

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Push Service" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click the "Configure Push Service" link. If the link is not shown, click on the "Sender" tab.
  4. Enter your email address and password.
  5. Click "Account Information: Additional Settings".

Note:In most cases, the FRITZ!Box automatically completes the following information. With smaller local providers, you have to enter it yourself. The required information is supplied by your DSL provider.

  6. Enter your username and the name of your email provider's SMTP server.
  7. If the server is not accessible on port 25, enter the port used by the server to communicate in the "Port" field, for example 587.
  8. If the server supports SSL, enable the option "This server supports a secure connection (SSL)".
  9. Enable the option "Test email sending after adopting the settings". If the option is not available, the test email will be sent automatically.
  10. Click "Next" or "Apply" and follow the wizard's instructions.
  11. Now the FRITZ!Box sends a test email to your email account.

Enabling the push service for smart home

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Push Service" in the "System" menu.
  3. Enable "Smart Home" and click the (Edit) button.
  4. Enable "Push service enabled" and "for every switching event".
  5. Click "OK" or "Apply" to save the settings.

The smart plug automatically turns off and the push service sends you a corresponding email as soon as the washing machine switches to standby mode, causing its power threshold to fall below the defined value for the amount of time you specified.
