Setting up FRITZ!Box for use with a Fastweb line

The FRITZ!Box is optimally prepared for use with Fastweb. Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the internet connection and configure the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box. The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and multimedia is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Connecting the FRITZ!Box

  1. Either connect the FRITZ!Box to the DSL line or use the "WAN" port to connect the FRITZ!Box with the fiber optic modem (ONT, Optical Network Termination). For detailed information, refer to the quick guide included with the FRITZ!Box and the manual.

2 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Account Information" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. If you are using the FRITZ!Box on a fiber optic connection:
    1. Select "other internet service provider" from the drop-down list.
    2. Enable the option "Connection to an external modem or router" in the "Connect via" area.
    3. Enable the option "Establish own connection to the internet" in the section "Operating Mode".
    4. Enable the option "No" in the section "Account Information".
    5. Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the "Downstream" and "Upstream" fields.
    6. If you are using the FRITZ!Box on a "Fibra Ottica BS-GPON" line, click "Change Connection Settings", enable the option "Use VLAN for internet access", and enter 835 in the field "VLAN ID".
  4. If you are using the FRITZ!Box on a VDSL line:
    1. Select "other internet service provider" from the drop-down list.
    2. Enable the option "Connection to a DSL line" in the "Connect via" area.
    3. Enable the option "No" in the section "Account Information".
    4. If Fastweb requires you to use VLAN ID 100 on your VDSL line, click "Change Connection Settings", enable the option "Use VLAN for internet access", and enter 100 in the field "VLAN ID".
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  6. Now the FRITZ!Box checks whether the internet connection can be established. Configuration is complete as soon as the message "The internet connection check was successful" is displayed.

    Important:If the internet connection check fails, your internet access may not have been activated yet. Check whether you can activate your internet connection at https://registrazione.fastweb.it or contact Fastweb directly.

3 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Requesting login information for telephony

  1. Call Fastweb's customer service to have them give you the login information for telephony (for example the username and password).

    Note:If you are asked for the MAC address of your DSL modem: The MAC address of the FRITZ!Box is listed on the type label on the package.

Configuring telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the "New Telephone Number" button.
  4. Select "Fastweb" from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter your telephone number including the area code by "Internet telephone number" (for example 061234567).
  6. Enter your telephone number including the area code by "Username".
  7. For the "Password", enter the password you received from Fastweb.
  8. Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.

Assigning telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making outgoing calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making calls.
  5. Select the telephone numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
