FRITZ!Box USB remote connection reports "No FRITZ!Box found!"

The FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software displays the error message "No FRITZ!Box found!". This means that you cannot connect USB devices to the computer using the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Setting up the USB remote connection in FRITZ!Box

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "USB Devices" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click on the "USB Remote Connection" tab. If the tab is not displayed, enable the Advanced View first.
  4. Enable the USB remote connection.
  5. Select the devices type for which the USB remote connection should be enabled, for example "USB storage media".
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

2 Connecting the computer without using guest access

You cannot use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection over LAN guest access or Wi-Fi guest access. Therefore, make sure that the computer is not connected with the FRITZ!Box via guest access:

  1. Either: Connect the computer to the "LAN 1", "LAN 2" or "LAN 3" port.

3 Activating the "SSDP Discovery" service in Windows

Windows 10

  1. Enter con in the search box in the Windows taskbar and then select "Control Panel".
  2. Select "Category" from the drop-down list "View by:" on the top right ().
  3. Click "System and Security" and then "Administrative Tools".
  4. Double-click the entry "Services".
  5. Double-click the entry "SSDP Discovery" displayed in the "Name" column.
  6. Select "Automatic" as the startup type.
  7. Click "OK" to save the settings.
  8. Restart your computer.

Windows 8

  1. Press the keyboard shortcut Windows key + X and select "Control Panel" from the context menu.
  2. Select "Category" from the drop-down list "View by:" on the top right ().
  3. Click "System and Security" and then "Administrative Tools".
  4. Double-click the entry "Services".
  5. Double-click the entry "SSDP Discovery" displayed in the "Name" column.
  6. Select "Automatic" as the startup type.
  7. Click "OK" to save the settings.
  8. Restart your computer.

Windows 7

  1. In Windows, click "Start" and then "Control Panel".
  2. Select "Category" from the drop-down list "View by:" on the top right ().
  3. Click "System and Security", and then "Administrative Tools" and "Services".
  4. Double-click the entry "SSDP Discovery" displayed in the "Name" column.
  5. Select "Automatic" as the startup type.
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.
  7. Restart your computer.

4 Configuring the firewall

A firewall on the computer with the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection can interfere with the communication between the software and the FRITZ!Box:

  1. Either: Configure an exception for the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software in the firewall.
    • Or: Configure the firewall to allow incoming and outgoing TCP and UDP connections from port 2066 on the FRITZ!Box to any destination ports on the computer.

      Note:Refer to the manufacturer of the firewall for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.

The FRITZ!Box and the computer are now fully configured to use the FRITZ!Box USB remote connection software. We are not aware of any additional measures to correct this error. Further causes could be problems or errors of the operating system or firewall on the computer.
