Changing the password for the FRITZ!Box user interface

You can protect the FRITZ!Box from unauthorized access with a password. The FRITZ!Box password used by all users or the password of an individual FRITZ!Box user can be changed at any time.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Changing the FRITZ!Box password

If you assigned a shared FRITZ!Box password for all users:

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "FRITZ!Box Users" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Login to the Home Network" tab.
  4. Enter the new password in the field "FRITZ!Box password" under "Login with the FRITZ!Box password".

    Important:Choose a password that is at least 12 characters long and contains upper and lower case letters (but not letters such as ä, ë, ö, ü, é, í) as well as numerals and special characters (but not §, ´).

  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

ATTENTION!If you did not assign your own passwords to FRITZ!Powerline adapters and FRITZ!Repeaters connected to your FRITZ!Box, you must now also enter the new password when opening their user interfaces.

2 Changing the password for a FRITZ!Box user

If you set up FRITZ!Box users with their own passwords for registration in the home network:

  1. Click "System" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "FRITZ!Box Users" in the "System" menu.
  3. Click on the "Users" tab.
  4. Click the (Edit) button for the user whose password you want to change.
  5. Enter the new password in the "Password" field.

    Important:Choose a password that is at least 12 characters long and contains upper and lower case letters (but not letters such as ä, ë, ö, ü, é, í) as well as numerals and special characters (but not §, ´).

  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

ATTENTION!If the user may also access the FRITZ!Box from the internet, this user must also use the new password for access from the internet.
