FRITZ! product damaged by power surge

Since damage caused by overvoltage (caused by lightning, for example) is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty, AVM cannot exchange the device. It is also not possible to repair devices damaged by overvoltage as their microelectronic components that were destroyed cannot be replaced.

However, many home contents insurance policies cover the reimbursement of costs for new electronic devices to replace those damaged by power surges. Insurance companies can often refer you to an appraiser who can examine your device and issue a corresponding certificate of damage. AVM does not issue such insurance certificates. If you have contents insurance, refer to your insurance company for further information.

The German Federal Office for Information Security points out on its website that not only your power line can be a source of overvoltage. Your connection to the telephone network and internet (for example over the DSL connection) can also be a source of damage to connected devices. You can avoid damage by always disconnecting your devices from the internet, telephone network, and power supply whenever there is a thunderstorm. Do not reconnect them until the thunderstorm is over.

Apart from that, only a multi-level protection system according to the corresponding standard on lightning protection can offer reliable protection. Since these measures have to be adapted to the actual conditions at your location (concept of energy coordination), we cannot give you any specific recommendations on implementing them. You can find detailed information on this topic if you search for "surge protection" on the internet, for example on Wikipedia.
