Cannot make a second internet call

If an internet call is already being conducted over the FRITZ!Box, a second call cannot be made over the internet. The error either occurs all the time or only occasionally.

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Determining the throughput of the internet connection

To make several internet calls at the same time, the throughput of your connection must be high enough. At least 128 kbit/s upstream and downstream are required per call:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "DSL Information" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "DSL" tab.
  4. Check how large the "Current throughput" is for your connection in the send direction.
  5. If the throughput is less than 256 kbit/s, have your DSL provider increase the throughput of your internet connection to at least 256 kbit/s.

2 Setting the speed of the line

The following step is only necessary if the FRITZ!Box is not connected directly to a DSL line:

Note:When used as a DSL router (standard), the FRITZ!Box determines these values automatically.

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Account Information" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click "Change connection settings".
  4. In the "Downstream" and "Upstream" fields in the section "Connection Settings", enter the speeds of the internet connection for receiving (download) and sending (upload) data in Mbit/s. If the fields are not displayed, the speeds of the internet connection are determined automatically. In this case you cannot adjust them.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

3 Contacting your provider

Your internet telephony provider never allows or occasionally does not allow a second call to be made:

  1. Contact your Internet telephony provider.
