Setting up call blocks for incoming and outgoing calls (e.g. premium-rate numbers)
You can set up call blocks in the FRITZ!Box to
- block outgoing calls to specific telephone numbers or number ranges (for example premium-rate numbers). Telephones connected to the FRITZ!Box are then no longer able to call these numbers.
- block incoming calls from specific telephone numbers or number ranges. You can also block callers who do not transmit their telephone number (anonymous callers). Then the telephones connected to the FRITZ!Box do not react to incoming calls from these callers and the calls are not recorded in the call list of the telephones. However, the calls are displayed as rejected calls in the FRITZ!Box call list.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Blocking outgoing calls and defining exceptions
Blocking a telephone number or range of telephone numbers
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Call Handling" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click the "New Blocking Rule" button.
- Enable the option "outgoing calls".
- Either enter a complete telephone number or a number range.
Note:A number range contains all of the telephone numbers that begin with the specified numbers. For instance, the range "00" contains all telephone numbers that start with "00". This means all international calls.
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
Configuring exceptions for blocked number ranges
If you blocked outgoing calls to a specific number range, you can use a dialing rule to configure exceptions for individual numbers or number ranges. Then you can call these numbers or number ranges despite the block:
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Call Handling" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click on the "Dialing Rules" tab.
- Click the "New Dialing Rule" button.
- Select the option "Telephone number" from the drop-down list "Number range".
- Enter the complete telephone number including area code or enter a number range you want to allow calls to.
Example:
You configured a block for international calls but still want to allow calls to be made to the USA. Enter the country code for USA, "001", as the telephone number when configuring the dialing rule.
You configured a block for the mobile telephone network but want to allow calls to your mobile telephone number. In this case, enter your complete telephone number when configuring the dialing rule. - From the drop-down list "Connect via", select the kind of connection or the telephone number that should be used to call the number.
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
2 Blocking incoming calls and defining exceptions
Anonymous calls
You can block callers who do not transmit their telephone number (anonymous callers). You can either block all anonymous callers or only anonymous callers who called a specific telephone number:
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Call Handling" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click the "New Blocking Rule" button.
- Enable the option "incoming calls".
- If you want to block all anonymous callers, regardless of which of your numbers they called, select "Without a number" from the drop-down list "Number range".
- If you only want to block anonymous callers who call a specific telephone number:
- Select "Telephone number" from the drop-down list "Number range".
- Enter your number preceded by # in the "Telephone number range" field.
Example:
You use your telephone number 123456 as a fax number and want to block anonymous fax calls. Enter #123456 in the "Telephone number" field. Now all callers who call the fax number 123456 and do not transmit their telephone number are rejected.
- If you only want to block anonymous callers who call a specific telephone number:
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
Calls from a specific telephone number or telephone number range
You can create a maximum of 32 call blocks. If you want to block more than 32 numbers, either block number ranges or save these numbers in their own telephone book and block this telephone book. All calls from contacts saved in this telephone book are then blocked:
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Call Handling" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click the "New Blocking Rule" button.
- Enable the option "incoming calls".
- If you want to block a specific telephone number or telephone number range:
- Enter the number or desired range (for example 123) in the "Telephone number" field.
- Enter a name for the call block. The name is then displayed in the call list of the FRITZ!Box.
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
- If you want to block a telephone book:
- Select "Telephone book" from the drop-down list "Number range".
- From the drop-down list, select the telephone book that contains the telephone numbers and telephone number ranges you want to block. Ranges must end with a *.
Example:
If you want to use the telephone book to block the range "123", create a telephone book entry for the number 123*. - Click "OK" to save the settings.
Setting up exceptions for specific callers
If you blocked incoming calls to a telephone number range, you can set up exceptions for specific callers in the telephone book. These callers can still call, despite the block:
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Telephone Book" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click the (Edit) button next to the entry for the caller.
- Enable the option "Important person". This option is only available in FRITZ!Box telephone books and Google Contacts.
- Click "OK" to save the settings.
