Setting up live images from an IP camera for FRITZ!Fon

The live image function enables you to follow what is happening in front of your IP camera (network camera, webcam) on your FRITZ!Fon. To use it, you must enter the web address (URL) of the IP camera with the keys on your FRITZ!Fon and start the live image function on your FRITZ!Fon. The camera image is then shown on the telephone's display as a sequence of images without audio.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • A FRITZ!Fon with a color display is being used.
  • The images must be in JPEG format, and the IP camera must make them available via HTTP.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Configuring the IP camera

  1. Configure the IP camera so that it makes its images available on a website via HTTP without authentication.

Note:For the optimal display of the live image, set the resolution of the IP camera to at least 240 x 320 to about 480 x 640 pixels.

2 Configuring the FRITZ!Box

DECT encryption must be enabled to use convenience functions with your FRITZ!Fon:

  1. Click "DECT" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Base Station" in the "DECT" menu.
  3. Enable the option "Permit only secure DECT connections (recommended)" in the section "Security".
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  5. If the option was disabled, you must then restart the FRITZ!Box once using the user interface ("System > Backup > Restart").

3 Setting up FRITZ!Fon

  1. Press the "Menu" key on the telephone.
  2. Select "Home Network" and press "OK".
  3. "Live Image" > "New Entry"
  4. Enter a name of your choice for the camera in the "Name" field.

Note:You can use the menu key to switch between upper case letters, lower case letters, or numbers. The current text entry mode is shown at the bottom right of the display.

  5. If you want to stream images from a camera in the FRITZ!Box home network, enter the complete local address (URL) where the image files can be accessed in the "URL" field. The URL must end with .jpg.

    Example:
    http://192.168.178.25/image_directory/image.jpg

    • If you want to stream images from a camera in the internet, enter the complete web address (URL) where the image files can be accessed in the "URL" field. The URL must end with .jpg.

Example for the rbb radio station's weather webcam at the Red City Hall in Berlin:
      http://www.berlin.de/webcams/rathaus/webcam.jpg

Important:If a username and password must be entered to access the photos, add them to the URL, for example
    http://user:password@ipcamera.my-domain.de/image_directory/image.jpg

  6. For "interval (in s)", enter the number of seconds after which a new image should be loaded from the camera and press "Save".

Now the live image is shown on the display of your FRITZ!Fon.
