Setting up the FRITZ!Box for use with an O2 cable connection

The FRITZ!Box is already configured for use with a cable connection from O2 in the factory settings. Simply connect the FRITZ!Box to the cable modem from O2. The complete FRITZ!Box range of functions for internet, telephony, and multimedia is then available to all of the devices in your home network without restriction.

If you changed the settings of the FRITZ!Box, configure the FRITZ!Box as described in this guide.

1 Connecting a cable modem

  1. Either connect the cable modem to the first multimedia socket or to the socket that the cable technician used for the original installation. Only use the coaxial cable (without an extension) provided by the cable technician to connect it.

2 Configuring the internet connection in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Open the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Enter the FRITZ!Box password on the bottom of the device and click "Log In".
  3. Click "Internet" and then "Account Information".
  4. Select "Cable modem or internet router" from the drop-down list "Internet connection via".
  5. Enter the speeds of your internet connection in the "Downstream" and "Upstream" fields.
  6. Use a network cable to connect the cable modem to the "WAN" port on the FRITZ!Box and click "Apply" to save the settings.

Now the FRITZ!Box establishes its internet connection over the cable modem. Configuration is completed when the message "The procedure was concluded successfully" is displayed.

3 Enabling IPv6 in the FRITZ!Box

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Account Information" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "IPv6" tab.
  4. Enable the option "IPv6 support enabled".
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

4 Setting up telephony in the FRITZ!Box

Having your login information ready

  1. Have the login information for telephony ready that was displayed in the O2 customer portal www.o2.de/mein-o2 under "Tarife & Optionen > Vertrag verwalten".

    Note:If your login information is not displayed in the customer portal although the cable connection is activated, contact O2.

Configuring telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephone Numbers" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the "New Telephone Number" button.
  4. Select "O2" from the drop-down list.
  5. Enter your area code and telephone number by "Telephone Number".
  6. Enter the login information you received from O2 by "SIP username" and "SIP password".
  7. Click "Next" and follow the wizard's instructions.

Assigning telephone numbers

  1. Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Telephony Devices" in the "Telephony" menu.
  3. Click the (Edit) button for the respective telephony device.

    Important:If the telephony device was not configured yet, click the "Configure New Device" button and follow the wizard's instructions.

  4. From the drop-down list "Outgoing Calls", select the number to be used by the telephony device for making calls. If you do not select a telephone number, the number entered under "Telephony > Telephone Numbers > Line Settings" is used for making outgoing calls.
  5. Select the numbers to which the telephony device should react when you receive calls. You can select up to ten numbers (including the number for outgoing calls).
  6. Click on "OK" to save the settings.
