Configuring provider prefixes and dialing rules
A dialing rule determines which telephone number or provider prefix (call-by-call number) the FRITZ!Box uses for for outgoing calls to a specific range of numbers (for example mobile telephone numbers) or to a specific telephone number. This way you can always use the most inexpensive telephone rate to make calls.
For example, you can specify that calls to a specific range of telephone numbers (for example 001) are always made using an inexpensive provider prefix, or that calls to a specific telephone number are always made using a specific internet telephone number.
Requirements / Restrictions
- Provider prefixes (call-by-call numbers) can only be used in Germany for numbers from Telekom.
Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.
1 Configuring provider prefixes
If your provider supports it, you can configure provider prefixes in the FRITZ!Box. The provider prefix is then dialed before the actual telephone number when you make an outgoing call. This means that the call is made via the provider of the prefix and is billed according to the current rate for the provider prefix:
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Call Handling" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click on the "Provider Prefixes" ("Carrier Prefixes") tab.
- If you want to make all calls using a specific provider prefix, enter the desired provider prefix in the "Global Provider Prefix" field. The global provider prefix then applies to all outgoing calls for which no provider prefix with dialing rules is configured.
- If you want to make specific calls with a provider prefix, enter the desired provider prefixes under "Additional Provider Prefixes". You can then use these provider prefixes to configure dialing rules for individual numbers or calls to a specific number range, for example mobile networks, international calls.
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
2 Configuring dialing rules
- Click "Telephony" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
- Click "Call Handling" in the "Telephony" menu.
- Click on the "Dialing Rules" tab.
- Click the "New Dialing Rule" button.
- From the drop-down list "Number range", select which type of call the dialing rule should apply to. If you select the range "Telephone number", also enter a telephone number or number range.
Example:
Enter 020 if the dialing rule should apply to all calls to London. - From the drop-down list "Connect via", select the telephone number or provider prefix that should be used for these calls. If you select "Internet", the FRITZ!Box uses the first internet telephone number entered under "Telephony > Telephone Numbers".
- Click "Apply" to save the settings.
