Individual web pages are not displayed or are not displayed correctly

Certain (but not all) web pages cannot be called up on a computer, smartphone, or other device connected to the FRITZ!Box. The web pages in question are either not displayed at all or are not displayed correctly. Images may be missing from the web page, or the page may be incomplete or shifted.

Simply proceed as described below. After each measure, check whether the problem is solved.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Attempting to open the web page later

Websites may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance work, for example:

  1. Open the web page at a later time.

2 Configuring a DNS server in the FRITZ!Box

In the factory settings, the FRITZ!Box uses the DNS server of the internet service provider for the name resolution of web addresses. If you set up other DNS servers in the FRITZ!Box, re-enable the DNS server of the internet service provider:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Account Information" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Click on the "DNS Server" tab.
  4. Enable the option "Use DNSv4 servers assigned by the internet service provider (recommended)".
  5. If the section "DNSv6 Servers" is displayed, enable the option "Use DNSv6 servers assigned by the internet service provider (recommended)".
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

3 Configuring the device to automatically obtain IP settings

To ensure that the device always uses the correct IP settings, make sure that it automatically obtains its IP settings from the FRITZ!Box (this is the default setting for most devices):

4 Disabling parental controls for the device

If the FRITZ!Box parental controls are configured incorrectly, web pages may not be displayed correctly, or they may not be displayed at all. Therefore, assign the respective device to the "Unrestricted" access profile for testing purposes:

  1. Click "Internet" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Filters" in the "Internet" menu.
  3. Select the access profile "Unrestricted" for the respective device from the drop-down list.
  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

If you are now able to call up the websites that could not be displayed before or if the web pages are now displayed correctly, then the filter for websites in the FRITZ!Box parental controls was blocking them.

For instance, some web pages cannot be displayed when the whitelist is enabled because the web pages load content from other web pages that are not included on the whitelist. If you call up www.wikipedia.org, for example, data from www.wikimedia.org is also loaded. If only wikipedia.org is on the whitelist, this web page cannot be displayed correctly.

Direct IP access to websites is also blocked when the filter for web pages is enabled. This means that you can no longer enter the IP address 212.42.244.80 instead of www.avm.de to call up the AVM website, for example.

Note:Under "Internet > Filters > Lists" in the user interface you can see which IP addresses the FRITZ!Box blocked and also unblock them again if necessary.

You can either choose to not restrict internet access for the respective device, or you can adjust the filter for web pages.

5 Using a different web browser

Not all web browsers support current web standards and technologies such as HTML5 or JavaScript to the same extent. Depending on the web standards and technologies used, some web browsers do not always display individual web pages correctly:

  1. Test a different current web browser, for example Chrome or Firefox.

6 Configuring security software

Some security software such as virus scanners, parental controls filters, and ad blockers prevent access to web pages in order to block their content or technologies such as Flash or JavaScript.

  1. Configure an exception for the website in the security software. Refer to the manufacturer for information on how to set it up, for example consult the manual.

7 Contacting your provider

  1. Contact your internet service provider.
