FRITZ!Repeater DVB-C Service

Changing the FRITZ!Repeater's Wi-Fi settings

The FRITZ!Repeater automatically adopts the Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and Wi-Fi network key of the FRITZ!Box (or another router) during setup in order to allow devices in the home network to quickly switch Wi-Fi networks (Wi-Fi roaming). If the FRITZ!Repeater is used in a Mesh with a FRITZ!Box, the FRITZ!Repeater also adopts all of the other Wi-Fi settings; if the Mesh Master's settings are changed, these changes are adopted automatically.

If necessary, you can also configure the FRITZ!Repeater's Wi-Fi settings according to your individual needs.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Repeater.

1 Disabling the adoption of settings from the Mesh

When used in a Mesh, you must first disable the adoption of settings in the FRITZ!Repeater:

2 Changing the name of the Wi-Fi network (SSID)

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click "Radio Network" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Enter the same unique name in the fields "Name of the wireless radio network (SSID)" for the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz frequency band.

Important:We recommend using the same name for both frequency bands so that the FRITZ!Repeater can automatically steer individual wireless devices to the most suitable frequency band (band steering).

  4. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  5. Reconfigure the Wi-Fi connection to the FRITZ!Repeater.

3 Change the Wi-Fi network key

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click "Security" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Click on the "Encryption" tab.
  4. Enter a password in the "Network key" field. Use numerals, letters, and other characters, and combine capitals and lower-case letters.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
  6. Reconfigure the Wi-Fi connection to the FRITZ!Repeater.

4 Enabling the MAC address filter

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click "Security" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Click on the "Encryption" tab.
  4. Enable the option "Do not allow any new wireless devices" in the "Restricting wireless LAN access" section.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Now only wireless devices listed under "Restricting wireless LAN access" can connect to the FRITZ!Repeater's Wi-Fi network. If you want to connect a new wireless device with the FRITZ!Repeater, briefly disable the MAC address filter and do not re-enable it until the new wireless device has been connected with the FRITZ!Repeater. The MAC address of the new wireless device will then be automatically added to the MAC address filter.

5 Setting up a Wi-Fi schedule

You can set up an individual schedule in the FRITZ!Repeater if you want to switch off its Wi-Fi network and the FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network at different times:

Note:The schedule is applied regardless of whether you already switched the Wi-Fi network on or off manually. You can use the "WPS" button on the FRITZ!Repeater to enable the Wi-Fi network at any time.

  1. Click "Wireless" ("WLAN") in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  2. Click "Schedule" in the "Wireless" ("WLAN") menu.
  3. Enable the option "Use schedule for wireless radio network".
  4. Disable the option "Adopt scheduling settings from the FRITZ!Box" and define when the Wi-Fi network should be switched off.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the settings.
