Using the FRITZ!Repeater in a home network without a DHCP server

By default, the FRITZ!Repeater obtains its IP settings from the wireless router (for example FRITZ!Box) via DHCP. If you want to use the FRITZ!Repeater in a home network without a DHCP server, you must manually configure the IP settings.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Repeater.

1 Preparing the device

For the duration of setup, assign the following IP settings to the device you want to use to configure the FRITZ!Repeater:

The following step is only necessary if you want to configure the FRITZ!Repeater as a LAN bridge with static IP settings:

Configuring the device for the FRITZ!Repeater's IP network

The following step is only necessary if you want to configure the FRITZ!Repeater as a wireless bridge with static IP settings:

  1. Enter 192.168.178.200 as the IP address in the device.
  2. Enter 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask in the device.
  3. Enter 192.168.178.2 as the standard gateway in the device.
  4. Enter 192.168.178.2 as the DNS server in the device.

2 Assigning static IP settings to FRITZ!Repeater

Configuring the FRITZ!Repeater as a LAN bridge

  1. Set up the FRITZ!Repeater as a LAN bridge in the FRITZ!Box home network or connect the FRITZ!Repeater as a LAN bridge with the router from another manufacturer and select the option "Configure the IP address manually" in the wizard.

Setting up the FRITZ!Repeater as a wireless bridge

  1. Set up the FRITZ!Repeater as a wireless bridge in the FRITZ!Box home network or connect the FRITZ!Repeater as a wireless bridge with the router from another manufacturer.

    Important:When setting up the FRITZ!Repeater, it assumes the wireless router's network name (SSID). Therefore, connect the devices to the wireless router's wireless network after setting up the FRITZ!Repeater.

  2. Click "Network" in the user interface of the FRITZ!Repeater.
  3. Click "Network Settings" in the "Network" menu.
  4. Enable the option "Configure the IP address manually".
  5. Enter the IP settings in the corresponding fields.
  6. Click "Apply" to save the settings.

Now the FRITZ!Repeater uses static IP settings. Return the device you used to configure the FRITZ!Repeater to its original IP settings. If you change how the FRITZ!Repeater is connected again, you must reconfigure the settings given here.
