Setting up group switching for FRITZ!Powerline

You can combine several FRITZ!DECT sockets, for example FRITZ!DECT 200, or a FRITZ!Powerline adapter's outlet switch, into a group and easily switch them together. Then you can switch a group of several outlet switches automatically according to a schedule or depending on temperature. If necessary, you can also manually switch a group for which a schedule is set up.
In addition, you can also define a switching actuator as a so-called "master. When it is switched, the whole group is switched.

Requirements / Restrictions

  • It is not possible to manually switch a group with outlet switches for which you set up temperature-based switching.

Note:All instructions on configuration and settings given in this guide refer to the latest FRITZ!OS for the FRITZ!Box.

1 Creating a group

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click the "New Group" button.
  4. If asked to do so, enable the option "Switching Actuators" and click "OK".
  5. Enter a name for the group and select the smart home devices you want to switch together in the group.
  6. Click the "OK" button.
  7. In the next window, click "OK" to save the settings.

2 Switching a group

Outlet switches, so-called "switch actuators", that you have grouped together can either be controlled automatically, via a "Master", or manually, if necessary:

Switching a group automatically

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. If available, select the option "All groups" from the drop-down list "viewing".
  4. Click the (Edit) button that corresponds to the group you want to set up automatic switching for or click the (Switch Automatically) button next to any smart home device that belongs to the group.
  5. In the "Automatic switching" section, select the desired switching times or select the option "Switch group automatically" and set up the desired schedule.
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Switching a group via a "Master"

You can define a smart home device as the so-called "master". When it is switched automatically or manually, all devices in the "master's" group are switched as well. The "master" does not have to belong to the group you want to switch:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. If available, select the option "All groups" from the drop-down list "viewing".
  4. Click the button (Edit) that corresponds to the group for which you want to configure switching via a "Master".
  5. In the "Automatic switching" section, enable the option "Switch group via a FRITZ! actuator ('master')" and select the device you want to use as the "Master" from the drop-down list "Actuator".
  6. Click "OK" to save the settings.

Switching a group manually

If you manually switch a group with outlet switches that you also set up an automatic switching schedule for, the manual switching applies until the next automatic switching time occurs:

  1. Click "Home Network" in the FRITZ!Box user interface.
  2. Click "Smart Home" in the "Home Network" menu.
  3. Click the on/off switch for "Group switch" in the section "Group [name of the group]".

Note:You can also manually switch the smart home group in the home network using a FRITZ!Fon (menu "Home Network > Smart Home") or over the internet with MyFRITZ!App.

When group switching is enabled for outlet switches, you can manually switch an individual outlet switch directly on the device itself, or you can use the FRITZ!Box user interface (in the "Home Network" menu under "Smart Home") if you set up an automatic switching schedule, but not temperature-based switching. As soon as the next automatic group switching occurs, the device is then once again subject to the group switching settings.
