Integrating powerline adapter from another manufacturer into a FRITZ!Powerline network

The FRITZ!Powerline adapters comply with the standard IEEE P1901 and thus can be connected with all common powerline adapters of the 200, 500 and 1200 Mbit/s class. To protect the powerline network from unauthorized users, communication between FRITZ!Powerline adapters is encrypted with a unique network password (128-bit AES key). In order to integrate powerline adapters from another manufacturer into the powerline network, they must use the same network password.

1 Connecting powerline adapters

In order to integrate the powerline adapter from a different manufacturer into your FRITZ!Powerline network, you have to share the network password with it:

  1. Plug the powerline adapter from the other manufacturer into an electrical outlet.
  2. Push the corresponding button on the powerline adapter so that it can receive the network password.

Note:You can find information on the procedure in the manual, or consult the manufacturer.

  3. Push the corresponding button on the FRITZ!Powerline adapter so that it can receive the network password:
    • If you have a FRITZ!Powerline adapter with a button or buttons on the base of the device:
      • Push the "Security" button for one second.
    • If you have a FRITZ!Powerline adapter with buttons on the front of the device:
      • Push the "Powerline(/Security)" button for one second.
    • The other powerline adapter now joins the existing FRITZ!Powerline network. Normally an LED on the powerline adapter will indicate when this process has been completed.
